UPES School of Law is organising the IX Surana & Surana Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition from October 30 to November 1, 2026.

About Moot Court Committee, School of Law, UPES

The Moot Court Committee (MCC), School of Law, UPES is responsible for planning, organising and facilitating moot court activities at the institution. The Committee has conducted eight editions of the Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition in partnership with Surana & Surana since 2018.

The ninth edition of the Surana & Surana and UPES School of Law Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition will be conducted in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys. The competition will take place offline at the Kandoli Campus of UPES, Dehradun.

About the Opportunity

The IX Surana & Surana and UPES School of Law Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition, 2026 aims to facilitate an understanding of evolving jurisprudence and emerging trends in Insolvency Law while enhancing participants’ research, writing and advocacy skills.

The competition will include written submissions, a Researcher’s Test and oral rounds. The oral rounds will consist of Preliminary, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final Rounds.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The competition is open to students pursuing three-year or five-year LL.B. courses during the academic year 2026–27.
  • Each team may have a maximum of three participants, comprising two speakers and one designated researcher.
  • No team coach, mentor, observer or other person may accompany registered participating team members.

Duration

The competition will be conducted from October 30 to November 1, 2026.

Mode

The competition will be conducted in on-campus, offline mode.

Location

The competition will be held at the Kandoli Campus of UPES, Dehradun, Uttarakhand – 248007.

Registration Fee

Each participating team must pay a registration fee of β‚Ή4,000 online. Teams qualifying for the on-campus rounds will additionally be required to pay β‚Ή3,000 per team per day towards accommodation and food.

Deadline

The last date for provisional registration is September 15, 2026, while the final online registration must be completed by September 22, 2026.

The last date for submitting the soft copies of the memorials is October 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST.

Practice Areas

The competition focuses on Insolvency Law and explores the legal framework governing insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings in India.

Awards

The winning team will receive β‚Ή65,000, while the runners-up will receive β‚Ή35,000. The competition also provides β‚Ή10,000 each for Best Researcher and Best Student Advocate, and β‚Ή5,000 each for Best Memorial for Appellant and Best Memorial for Respondent. All participants will receive participation certificates.

Competition Timeline

  • The case record was released on August 13, 2026.
  • Provisional registration closes on September 15, 2026.
  • Final registration closes on September 22, 2026.
  • Clarifications may be sought until September 22, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST.
  • The Researcher’s Test will be conducted online on October 12, 2026.
  • The top 16 teams will qualify for the on-campus rounds based on their Memorial Evaluation scores, with the result announced on October 13, 2026.
  • The Preliminary Rounds will be held on October 31, 2026.
  • The Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Rounds will be conducted on October 31, 2026, and the Final Round will be held on November 1, 2026.

Roles & Responsibilities

Written Submissions

Each team must prepare Written Submissions for both the Appellant and Respondent. The submissions must comply with the prescribed formatting, anonymity and content requirements.

Legal Research

Teams will be evaluated on the variety and depth of their research and their use of legal sources, including custom, precedents and general principles of law.

Oral Advocacy

The two designated speakers will present arguments during the oral rounds. Preliminary and Quarter-Final rounds provide each team with 30 minutes, while the Semi-Final and Final Rounds provide 45 minutes, including rebuttals and sur-rebuttals.

Researcher’s Test

The designated researcher of each participating team must appear for the online Researcher’s Test on October 12, 2026.

Application Procedure

Interested teams may complete their provisional registration from August 13, 2026, with provisional registration closing on September 15, 2026.

Final registration must be completed online through www.moot.in by September 22, 2026.

Teams must subsequently send the required registration documents for authentication to mca.upes@gmail.com.

The required documents include the external participation form/approval letter, the prescribed registration form and a scanned copy of the online payment receipt.

The duly filled, sealed and signed soft copy of the Registration Form must also be sent to mca.upes@gmail.com by September 22, 2026. The prescribed subject line is β€œIX SURANA & SURANA AND UPES SCHOOL OF LAW, INSOLVENCY LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2026”.

The last date for submitting the travel plan and additional accommodation fee is October 18, 2026.
