About the Ministry of Women and Child Development

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India, is the nodal ministry responsible for framing policies and implementing programmes for the welfare, protection, and empowerment of women and children across the country. Through various initiatives, the Ministry works towards promoting gender equality, child welfare, women’s safety, nutrition, and social development.

As part of its outreach and capacity-building initiatives, the Ministry regularly conducts internship programmes to familiarise participants with public policy formulation, programme implementation, and governance.

About the Internship

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited applications for its Internship Programme 2026 for women students, scholars, social activists, and teachers belonging to non-tier-I cities and rural areas of India. The programme is intended to provide participants with practical exposure to the Ministry’s policies, schemes, and administrative functioning through a short-term association.

During the internship, selected candidates may be assigned pilot projects, micro-studies, policy analysis, and research assignments relating to the Ministry’s ongoing programmes. The programme seeks to equip participants with a better understanding of issues relating to women and child development and encourage informed participation in policy discussions and social initiatives.

Internship Duration

The internship will be conducted for a period of two months.

Stipend

Selected interns will receive a lump sum stipend of ₹20,000 per month. In addition, the Ministry will reimburse travel expenses for joining and completing the internship through Deluxe Bus, AC Bus, or AC 3-Tier Train, as per the applicable guidelines.

Accommodation

Interns who wish to avail accommodation will be provided hostel facilities in New Delhi on a shared basis during the internship. The accommodation includes basic amenities such as a room with an attached bathroom, table, chair, and cupboard. However, interns will be required to arrange their own mattress and other personal necessities.

  • Must be a woman student, scholar, social activist, or teacher.
  • Must belong to a non-tier-I city or rural area of India.
  • Must be enrolled in or associated with a university, academic institution, or non-academic institution.

Selection will be based on the recommendations of the Committee, and the list of selected candidates will be published on the official Internship Portal under the Downloads section. Candidates who have previously participated in this Internship Programme are not eligible to apply again.

The internship will be conducted at the Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi. During the programme, interns will closely observe the functioning of the Ministry and gain practical exposure to policy implementation, programme management, and governance.
