NLU Delhi, formally known as National Law University Delhi, is organising the International Conference on โ€œReparations and Victim Justice in International Criminal Law: From Harm to Repair.โ€ The NLU Delhi conference is organised under the NLU Delhi Research Endeavour Grant (N-REG) 2025โ€“26 project titled โ€œReparations and Victim-Centered Justice under International Criminal Law.โ€

NLU Delhiโ€™s conference seeks to examine the evolving role of victims and reparations within international criminal law and their relationship with broader developments in international law.

About the NLU Delhi Conference

The NLU Delhi International Conference will bring together scholars, practitioners, researchers, doctoral scholars, and postgraduate students working in international criminal law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, State responsibility, transitional justice, and related areas of international law.

NLU Delhi invites doctrinal, comparative, theoretical, and interdisciplinary research examining victims, harm, remedies, and reparations within international criminal law. Submissions must remain grounded in public international law and substantively engage with relevant international legal norms, principles, jurisprudence, or institutional practice.

Conference Format

The NLU Delhi conference will be conducted online through Google Meet or Zoom. Selected presenters will be assigned to thematic sessions based on the subject and approach of their accepted papers.

Conference Themes

The NLU Delhi conference invites papers addressing the following themes:

  • Victim Identity and Recognition
  • Domestic, Hybrid and Regional Human Rights Approaches to Reparations and Victimhood
  • Reparations and Transitional Justice
  • Victims, Reparations and Other Branches of International Law
  • Emerging Challenges in Victim Justice and Reparations

Eligibility Criteria

NLU Delhi invites submissions from:

  • Researchers
  • Academics
  • Practitioners
  • Doctoral scholars
  • Postgraduate students

The proposed abstract must relate to one of the NLU Delhi conference themes and must substantively engage with public international law.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

NLU Delhi requires participants to submit an abstract of 600โ€“800 words outlining the proposed paper, its central argument, contribution, and methodology.

Each NLU Delhi conference abstract must include:

  • Title of the proposed paper
  • Name and institutional affiliation of the author or authors
  • Email address and contact details
  • A short biographical note of approximately 100 words for each author
  • Research question or central problem
  • Principal argument
  • Relevant legal, doctrinal, comparative, or theoretical framework
  • Methodology
  • Contribution to existing scholarship or international legal discourse

The NLU Delhi abstract must be submitted in English and in MS Word format. The text should use Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 1.5-line spacing. Footnotes should be in Times New Roman, 10-point font, with single-line spacing. Citations must follow OSCOLA 5th Edition.

NLU Delhi requires a declaration confirming that the work is original and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. NLU Delhi has also stated a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism and the use of AI-generated content in submissions.

Co-Authorship

NLU Delhi permits co-authorship with a maximum of two authors per paper. Both authors must make a substantive contribution and must separately register by paying the applicable registration fee.

At least one author or co-author must be present to present the paper at the NLU Delhi conference. Certificates will be provided to all paper presenters.

The NLU Delhi registration fee is:

  • Doctoral Scholars: INR 1,200

  • Attendees Only: INR 500

Full Paper Guidelines

Authors whose abstracts are accepted by NLU Delhi will be invited to submit a full paper.

  • Suggested length: 5,000โ€“6,000 words, inclusive of footnotes
  • Citation style: OSCOLA 5th Edition
  • NLU Delhi full paper submission deadline: 11:59 PM, November 1, 2026

NLU Delhi may consider selected papers for publication in an edited book, subject to the applicable editorial and peer-review process. Acceptance for presentation at the NLU Delhi conference does not automatically guarantee publication.
