The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is the national governing body of football, futsal and beach soccer in India. Founded on June 23, 1937, the federation is a member of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The AIFF runs the India national football teams and the country’s leading domestic competitions, including the Indian Super League and the I-League, and works on the administration and development of football in India from its headquarters at Football House, New Delhi.
About the Opportunity
The All India Football Federation is inviting applications for 2 Legal Associate positions on a contractual basis at its headquarters in New Delhi. The selected candidates will join the federation’s Legal, Regulatory and Governance Department, which advises and supports the AIFF on disciplinary, governance, regulatory, commercial, contractual, litigation and other legal matters arising from the administration and development of football in India.
The AIFF Legal Associate will work closely with the Legal Department and gain exposure to the legal and regulatory framework governing a national sporting federation, including AIFF regulations, FIFA and AFC regulations, contractual arrangements, disciplinary proceedings, governance, litigation and sports-related commercial matters.

Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Drafting & Documentation
- Assist in the drafting, reviewing, formatting and finalisation of legal documents, correspondence, notices, agreements and other legal instruments, including service agreements, sponsorship and partnership agreements, licensing arrangements, commercial contracts, consultancy agreements, tenders, addenda and corrigenda.
- Prepare legal briefs, notes, summaries, chronologies and other documentation required by the Legal Department.
Regulatory & Governance Matters
- Assist in the drafting, review and revision of AIFF regulations, policies, circulars, guidelines and other governance documents.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research on matters concerning the AIFF Constitution, FIFA and AFC regulations, applicable Indian laws and sports-governance frameworks.
- Assist in reviewing federation policies and procedures to identify legal, regulatory and compliance risks.
Disciplinary & Sports Regulatory Matters
- Assist in matters relating to disciplinary proceedings, appeals, player status, registration, transfers and other regulatory disputes.
- Assist in the work of AIFF committees and bodies dealing with disciplinary, ethics, appeal and other regulatory matters.
Litigation, Arbitration & External Counsel Coordination
- Assist the Legal Department in coordinating with external advocates, law firms and legal counsel engaged by the federation.
- Assist in compiling documents, factual briefs, legal records and instructions for court proceedings, arbitration, sports disputes and proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
- Track ongoing legal matters, hearings, deadlines and filings, and assist in ensuring timely coordination between the federation and its external counsel.
Commercial & Contractual Matters
- Assist in reviewing commercial arrangements, including sponsorship, partnership, licensing, branding, media and service-provider agreements.
- Assist in identifying contractual, compliance and legal risks, and review tenders, RFPs, bid documents and related communications.
Legal Research & Advisory Support
- Conduct research on Indian sports law, commercial law, employment law, intellectual property, competition law, data protection, consumer protection and other areas relevant to the federation’s operations.
- Research and analyse FIFA, AFC and other international sporting regulations, and prepare legal research notes to assist senior members of the department.
Departmental & Federation Support
- Assist in responding to legal queries received from various departments, member associations, clubs, players, officials, service providers and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal departments for legal matters, assist in monitoring compliance with contractual, regulatory and statutory obligations, and undertake other responsibilities as assigned.
Eligibility Criteria
- LL.B. / B.A. LL.B. / B.B.A. LL.B. or an equivalent recognised law degree
- Candidates with 0–2 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) are particularly encouraged to apply
- Fresh law graduates with relevant internships and a demonstrated interest in sports law, football governance, commercial law or regulatory matters will also be considered
- Prior internship or work experience in sports law, commercial law, litigation, regulatory law or corporate law will be an advantage
- Candidates with experience in or familiarity with FIFA and AFC regulations, sports governance, disciplinary regulations, player regulations or CAS proceedings will be preferred
Core Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent legal drafting, proofreading and research abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and work within tight timelines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
