About the Opportunity

SAFFRON Magicworks is seeking a commercially minded lawyer to join its legal and business affairs team. The role offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of law, intellectual property, creative content, and entertainment business operations.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and merit.

Eligibility Criteria

• One to two years of relevant experience, preferably with a Media and Entertainment law firm, production house, studio, broadcaster, or streaming platform.
• Fresh candidates may also apply.
• Strong understanding of copyright, intellectual property, licensing, and allied rights.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating entertainment-related agreements is preferred.
• Ability to understand commercial transactions, identify legal risks, and propose practical solutions.
• Excellent legal drafting, research, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with creative, business, finance, and production teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

Contract Drafting and Negotiation

• Draft, review, and negotiate content acquisition agreements.
• Work on talent, writer, director, production, licensing, and other entertainment-related agreements.
• Communicate and negotiate confidently with senior external counterparties.

Intellectual Property and Content

• Support intellectual property development, acquisition, and protection.
• Assist with legal matters relating to feature films, digital and streaming content, and unscripted programming.
• Address copyright, licensing, and allied rights issues arising in entertainment projects.

Legal Risk Assessment and Commercial Advisory

• Review commercial transactions and identify potential legal risks.
• Recommend practical, commercially sound solutions.
• Support the legal and business affairs team in addressing contractual and operational issues.

Coordination and Legal Operations

• Collaborate with creative, business, finance, and production teams.
• Maintain strong follow-through and attention to detail across assignments.
• Work independently while recognising when a matter requires escalation.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong legal drafting and written communication skills.
• Sound commercial judgment and a practical approach to problem-solving.
• Confidence in negotiating and communicating with external stakeholders.
• Initiative, ownership, and the ability to learn quickly.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
