Registrations are open for Nyaya Setu – The AI & Justice Policy Convention, a national-level policy drafting competition organised by the School of Law, NMIMS Indore.

About SVKM’s NMIMS Indore

SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is a multidisciplinary deemed-to-be university established in 1981. The School of Law, NMIMS Indore, established in 2019, offers integrated law programmes and focuses on experiential legal education through moot courts, policy drafting, legal aid initiatives, conferences, and research activities.

The competition is organised by SAMATVA, the Legal Aid & Awareness Cell of NMIMS Indore, in collaboration with the Centre for Research Excellence in Generative Artificial Intelligence. Civis is the knowledge partner for the event.

About the Opportunity

Nyaya Setu – The AI & Justice Policy Convention is a national-level Policy Drafting Competition (Policy Hackathon) that focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence and the justice delivery system.

Participants are required to draft practical and implementable policy frameworks addressing the use of Generative AI within India’s legal and justice ecosystem. The competition simulates the functioning of a Parliamentary Standing Committee and encourages participants to develop policy solutions relating to AI governance, legal aid, access to justice, and constitutional values.

Start Date

The advanced and final rounds of the competition will be conducted on September 17 and 18, 2026.

Mode

The preliminary round will be conducted online, while the advanced and final rounds will be conducted offline at the NMIMS Indore campus.

Location

The advanced and final rounds will be held at the School of Law, SVKM’s NMIMS, Indore.

Remuneration

The organisers have announced the following prizes:

  • Winner: ₹20,000 and a trophy.
  • First Runner-up: ₹12,000 and a trophy.
  • Best Speaker: ₹8,000 and a trophy.

Deadline

The last date for registration and submission of the Policy Concept Note is August 30, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students pursuing a recognised degree from any university or college.
  • Participants must be enrolled in a UGC-recognised institution in India.
  • Each team shall consist of two members.
  • A participant may be a member of only one team.

Application Procedure

Interested teams may apply through the following:

  • Complete the registration on or before August 30, 2026.
  • Pay the registration fee of ₹900 through the official payment portal
  • Registration will be considered complete only after submission of the registration form, payment of the registration fee, and receipt of the confirmation email from the organising committee.
