North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1973. The University is committed to advancing higher education and research while contributing to the academic, cultural, and socio-economic development of the North-Eastern region of India.
The Department of Law, established in 2005, offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes. The Department actively promotes advocacy, legal research, and experiential learning through its flagship National Moot Court Competition and participation in national mooting events.
About the Opportunity
The Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University, is organising the 3rd North-Eastern Hill University National Moot Court Competition, 2026. The competition marks the return of the University’s flagship moot court event after eight years and seeks to provide law students with a platform to develop legal research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy skills while engaging with contemporary legal issues.
The Preliminary Rounds will be conducted virtually, while the knockout rounds will take place physically at the Department of Law, NEHU, Shillong. A maximum of 36 teams from recognised law institutions across India will be accommodated.
Registration Fee
A registration fee of ₹1,500 per team is payable at the time of registration. The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Deadline
The last date for registration is August 28, 2026.
The online memorial submission deadline is September 15, 2026.
Mode
The Preliminary Rounds will be conducted in virtual mode.
The Octa-Final, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Final Rounds will be conducted in offline mode at the Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
Location
The physical rounds will be held at the Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya.
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to bona fide students enrolled in a regular three-year or five-year LL.B. programme or an LL.M. programme offered by an institution recognised by the Bar Council of India.
- Each recognised University, Law School, or College may nominate only one team.
- Each team must consist of two or three members.
- In a three-member team, two members shall act as Speakers and one member shall act as the Researcher.
- In a two-member team, both participants shall serve as Speakers, and either member may undertake the Researcher’s Test.

- Complimentary accommodation and meals will be provided to teams qualifying for the physical rounds.
- All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
- Every participant will receive a 10% scholarship code applicable to Lawctopus courses.

The competition offers the following awards:
- Winner: ₹50,000
- Runners-Up: ₹25,000
- Best Advocate: ₹11,000
- Best Memorial: ₹11,000
- Best Researcher: ₹8,000
