About the Ministry of External Affairs
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the Government of India’s ministry responsible for managing the country’s foreign affairs, diplomatic relations, and engagement with the Indian diaspora. The Diaspora Engagement (DE) Division handles matters concerning Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Indian students abroad, and issues affecting the global Indian community.
About the Opportunity
The Ministry of External Affairs is inviting applications for the engagement of one Consultant (Legal) in the Diaspora Engagement (DE) Division. The selected candidate will assist the Ministry in handling litigation, legal advisory, and policy-related matters concerning the Indian diaspora, marital disputes, child abduction cases, and other legal issues.
Number of Posts
There is one vacancy for the position of Consultant (Legal).
Duration
The engagement will be for one year, which may be extended based on performance, mutual willingness, and the requirements of the Ministry.
Mode
The engagement is on a full-time contractual basis.
Location
The selected candidate will be posted at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi (South Block, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Patiala House, ISIL Building, or Akbar Bhawan).
Remuneration
The selected candidate will receive a remuneration package commensurate with experience and profile, subject to a maximum of ₹83,300 per month (before applicable taxes).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Hold a Graduate degree in Law.
- Have 5 years of practice before a Sessions Court, or 3 years of practice before a High Court, or 2 years of practice before the Supreme Court of India.
- Be 27–40 years of age as on the last date of submission of the application.
Desirable Qualification
Applicants having domain knowledge of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and other Indian laws will be preferred.
Roles & Responsibilities
Litigation
- Handle court cases in which the Ministry or the Diaspora Engagement Division is a party.
Legal Advisory
- Provide legal opinions on marital disputes, child abduction matters, and issues concerning Indian students abroad.
- Examine legal matters relating to Bills handled by the DE Division, including the NRI Marriage Bill.
Policy Support
- Assist the Ministry in legal and policy matters concerning the Indian diaspora and related legislation.
