Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is a statutory body constituted under an Act of Parliament. It has invited applications for existing and anticipated vacancies to be filled on deputation on Foreign Service terms or on a short-term contract basis from eligible officials of Central and State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings and Autonomous Bodies.

About the Opportunity

CERC is inviting applications for Joint Chief (Legal), Deputy Chief (Legal), Assistant Chief (Legal) and Bench Officer posts. The appointments are to be made on deputation or short-term contract basis, as applicable.

The roles involve legal and judicial/quasi-judicial matters, including proceedings, petitions, pleadings and listing of case laws.

Number of Positions

  • Joint Chief (Legal): 2 positions.
  • Deputy Chief (Legal): 1 position.
  • Assistant Chief (Legal): 4 positions.
  • Bench Officer: 1 position.

Salary

  • Joint Chief (Legal): Pay Level 13, β‚Ή1,23,100–₹2,15,900.
  • Deputy Chief (Legal): Pay Level 12, β‚Ή78,800–₹2,09,200.
  • Assistant Chief (Legal): Pay Level 11, β‚Ή67,700–₹2,08,700.
  • Bench Officer: Pay Level 11, β‚Ή67,700–₹2,08,700.

Duration

The normal period of deputation or short-term contract is five years, as stated in the vacancy circular.

Deadline

The prescribed application must reach CERC by 8 October 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications are invited from officers of Central or State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Bodies and other specified organisations.
  • For Joint Chief (Legal), candidates should be holding an analogous post on a regular basis, or have the prescribed regular service at the specified lower pay levels.
  • For Deputy Chief (Legal), candidates should be holding an analogous post or have the prescribed regular service at the specified lower pay levels.
  • For Assistant Chief (Legal), candidates should be holding an analogous post or meet the prescribed regular-service requirements at the specified pay levels.
  • The legal posts preferably require specialisation in Regulations or a Master’s Degree in Law, as specified in the vacancy details.
  • Relevant experience includes judicial, quasi-judicial and legal matters, including proceedings, petitions, pleadings and listing of case laws.

Legal Research

The legal roles involve work relating to judicial, quasi-judicial and legal matters, including proceedings, petitions, pleadings and listing of case laws.

Litigation Support

The positions require relevant experience in judicial and quasi-judicial matters, including proceedings and petitions.

Drafting

Relevant experience includes preparation and handling of pleadings and other legal matters connected with proceedings before judicial and quasi-judicial forums.

Case Management

The specified legal experience includes listing of cases and case laws as part of judicial, quasi-judicial and legal work.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates must submit the prescribed application form along with attested photocopies of relevant documents supporting their age, educational qualifications and experience. Applications must be routed through the proper channel.

Applicants are also required to apply online through the CERC vacancy page.

The sponsoring or forwarding authority must forward the application of an eligible and willing candidate whose particulars have been verified and whose services can be spared if selected. Attested copies of the ACRs/APARs for the last five years, along with the latest Vigilance Clearance/Integrity Certificate, must also be enclosed.

The application envelope should be superscribed with β€œApplication for the post of” followed by the post applied for.

The application must reach the Deputy Chief (Admin), CERC, by 8 October 2026. Applications submitted in advance will be entertained only if the complete application routed through the proper channel is received within thirty days after the closing date, i.e. by 7 November 2026.
