About the Organisation

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) is a statutory body constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It is responsible for ensuring access to justice by providing free legal aid to eligible individuals and promoting alternative dispute resolution through Lok Adalats and legal awareness initiatives.

NALSA plays a crucial role in strengthening the legal aid ecosystem across India by coordinating with State Legal Services Authorities, District Legal Services Authorities, legal aid institutions, and various justice delivery mechanisms.

About the Opportunity

NALSA is offering its Internship Programme 2026 for law students across the country. The programme is designed to provide participants with practical exposure to legal services administration, legal aid mechanisms, policy implementation, and field-level justice delivery institutions.

Interns will gain first-hand experience of NALSA’s functioning through research assignments, institutional visits, orientation sessions, and interactions with legal services stakeholders.

Duration

The internship will run for a period of one month (four weeks) and will commence on the first day of the respective month.

Mode

This is a full-time in-office internship.

Location

The internship will be conducted in New Delhi.

Stipend / Salary

No stipend, remuneration, TA, or DA will be provided during the internship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students pursuing a Three-Year LL.B. course from a recognised institution.
  • Students pursuing a Five-Year Integrated Law Course from a recognised institution.
  • Preference will be given to:
    • Students in the 3rd to 5th year of a Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
    • Students in the 2nd to 3rd year of a Three-Year LL.B. Course.

Roles & Responsibilities

Legal Services Research

  • Study legal aid frameworks, schemes, SOPs, and institutional policies.
  • Analyse reports, modules, and legal services documentation.

Institutional Exposure

  • Observe the functioning of NALSA and associated legal services institutions.
  • Participate in orientation and learning sessions conducted by NALSA officials.

Field Visits

  • Visit legal aid institutions and justice delivery bodies.
  • Gain exposure to District Legal Services Authorities and Legal Aid Defence Counsel Offices.
  • Observe proceedings and operations at National Lok Adalats.

Court & Justice System Exposure

  • Visit Remand Courts, mediation centres, and other justice-related institutions.
  • Understand the practical functioning of legal aid and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Professional Development

  • Interact with legal professionals and officials working in the legal services sector.
  • Develop practical understanding of access-to-justice initiatives.
