LawAI is inviting applications for two summer fellowship programmes in 2027, covering legal and policy research on advanced AI and US AI law and policy.
About the Opportunity
LawAI is offering two paid 10-week summer fellowships from June 14 to August 20, 2027. Both programmes will include a shared Convening Week in Washington, DC, from June 21 to June 25, 2027.
Summer Research Fellowship (Legal Frontiers)
The Summer Research Fellowship is intended for researchers developing new legal and policy paradigms for advanced AI.
The current research focus includes Law-Following AI and Automated Governance and Rule of Law, while applications are open to a wide range of related topics.
The fellowship generally focuses on the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, other common law jurisdictions, and international law.
The programme is remote-first, with the weekly subsidy calibrated according to the fellowโs location. Fellows may also have the option to work with LawAI teams in Cambridge, UK, or Washington, DC.
Selected fellows may also attend the following yearโs Workshop on Law-Following AI in Cambridge.
Summer Fellowship (US)
The Summer Fellowship (US) is intended for law students, professionals, and academics working on US AI law and policy.
Fellows have considerable discretion over their research output, which may include a law review article, policy brief, or another suitable research product.
The fellowship is primarily in-person in Washington, DC and provides a $2,000 weekly subsidy along with a $10,000 relocation and housing stipend. Remote arrangements may also be considered.
Selected fellows may also participate in the following yearโs Summer Institute on Law and AI in Washington, DC.
Duration
Both summer fellowship programmes will run for 10 weeks, from June 14 to August 20, 2027.
