About the Opportunity

The Department of Justice is inviting applications for one Consultant (Legal) on a contractual basis for a period of one year from the date of joining. The engagement may be extended or curtailed based on the terms of the contract and performance.

Position

The position offered is Consultant (Legal).

Number of Positions

There is 01 vacancy for the position of Consultant (Legal).

Location

The place of posting is New Delhi, with the headquarters at the Department of Justice office at Jaisalmer House, 26, Man Singh Road, New Delhi.

Tenure

The engagement will initially be for one year from the date of joining, subject to extension on satisfactory performance.

Remuneration

The Consultant will receive a monthly remuneration of โ‚น90,000.

An annual increment of up to 10% may be granted based on satisfactory performance after completion of one year of continuous engagement.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have a Graduation/Post-Graduation in Law, Public Policy or Management.
  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience as on July 31, 2026.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having relevant experience in a related field or similar field/project management.
  • Candidates should have proficiency in project management.
  • Candidates should have a good command of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • The minimum age is 21 years and the maximum age is 45 years as on July 31, 2026.

Roles & Responsibilities

Rule of Law Index

The Consultant will assist in initiatives aimed at improving Indiaโ€™s ranking in the Rule of Law Index, coordinate with various departments and Ministries, prepare inputs for the Index, and prepare presentations before NITI Aayog/Department of Justice and other related orders concerning the Rule of Law Index.

Action Research

The Consultant will undertake the first-level scrutiny of final project research reports received from implementing agencies to assess compliance with stated objectives and key deliverables.

The role also involves analysing final project research reports for the quality of recommendations and findings and coordinating with implementing agencies for timely submission of progress and final reports and related project events.

Financial Proposals and Project Monitoring

The Consultant will assist in drafting financial proposals for the release of grants to implementing agencies upon completion of requisite milestones and drafting sanction orders for release of funds.

The role also includes monitoring project progress reports, preparing proposals for consideration and acceptance of final reports, and assisting with related financial implications.

National Judicial Academy

The Consultant will be responsible for processing Grant-in-Aid proposals relating to the National Judicial Academy.

The work includes monitoring submission and utilisation of Utilization Certificates relating to General Budget, Salary, Swachhta Action Plan and Capital Fund released to the National Judicial Academy.

Budget and Coordination

The Consultant will assist with scrutiny of financial proposals exceeding โ‚น10 lakh, processing and coordination of meetings of the National Judicial Advisory Council, handling Budget Demand-related work, and processing guidelines, proposals and other associated matters.

The Consultant may also be assigned other work by the Senior Officers from time to time.

Working Hours

The Consultant will ordinarily work from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on all working days, with a half-hour lunch break. The Consultant may be required to work beyond office hours or on holidays as per requirements.

Leave

The Consultant will be entitled to 12 days of leave per year on a pro-rata basis. Leave cannot be carried forward.

Other Conditions

The Consultant will not be eligible for Government accommodation, HRA or CGHS facilities.

Basic office infrastructure, including an official email ID, identity card, internet and workspace, will be provided. No residential facilities or support staff will be provided.

The engagement may be terminated in accordance with the terms specified in the notification, including in cases of unsatisfactory performance, delay in work, breach of confidentiality or lack of integrity.

Police verification of the selected candidate will be conducted as per MHA guidelines.
