A Delhi court has acquitted former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.
Delhi Court Acquits Former WFI Chief
A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP Member of Parliament Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the criminal case arising out of sexual harassment allegations made by women wrestlers.
The Court also acquitted Vinod Tomar, former Assistant Secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, who had been facing charges in connection with the same case.
The judgment was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar at the Rouse Avenue Courts.
Case Originated From Complaints by Women Wrestlers
The prosecution stemmed from complaints lodged by six women wrestlers alleging sexual harassment by Singh during his tenure as WFI chief.
Following the complaints, Delhi Police registered an FIR and later filed a chargesheet alleging offences including outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation led to the commencement of criminal proceedings before the trial court.
Charges Were Framed in 2024
In May 2024, the trial court found sufficient material to frame charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for offences relating to sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women.
The Court had also framed charges of criminal intimidation concerning allegations made by two of the complainants.
Co-accused Vinod Tomar was similarly charged with criminal intimidation in relation to one complainant.
Court Acquits Both Accused
After completion of the trial, the Court acquitted both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar of all charges.
As media access inside the courtroom was restricted, counsel appearing for Singh stated after the verdict that the acquittal was an “honourable acquittal.”

Separate POCSO Case Had Already Been Closed
Apart from the present case, allegations had also been made by a minor wrestler, resulting in the registration of a separate case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
However, after the complainant withdrew her allegations, Delhi Police submitted a cancellation report before the competent court.
The proceedings in the POCSO matter were subsequently closed.
Verdict Brings Criminal Trial to an End
With the acquittal of both accused, the criminal proceedings initiated on the basis of the complaints by the women wrestlers have concluded before the trial court.
The verdict marks the end of one of the most closely followed criminal cases involving India’s wrestling administration in recent years.
