The Centre for Business and Commercial Laws at NLIU Bhopal invites abstracts for its Journal of Business Laws on contemporary business and commercial law issues.

National Law Institute University, Bhopal, is home to the Centre for Business and Commercial Laws (CBCL), established in 2008 as a Centre for Excellence. CBCL works to promote awareness, scholarship and understanding of corporate and business laws.

The Journal of Business Laws (JBL) is the flagship publication of CBCL and focuses exclusively on corporate and commercial laws. It publishes long articles, case comments, legislative comments and book reviews.

About the Opportunity

The Journal of Business Laws is inviting abstract submissions for its upcoming volume. Authors may submit work addressing contemporary issues under the broad themes of business and commercial laws.

The sub-themes listed in the call are indicative, and authors are free to explore other subjects of contemporary relevance within the broad themes.

Categories of Submission

Long Articles

Long articles should be between 4,000 and 7,000 words and provide a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of a contemporary issue in corporate and commercial laws, supported by a range of sources and offering alternatives and suggestions.

Book Reviews

Book reviews should be between 1,000 and 3,000 words and provide a concise account of a recently published book on corporate and commercial laws, including the issues explored and the authorโ€™s related arguments.

Case Comments

Case comments should be between 2,000 and 4,000 words and analyse a recent judgment, examining its relevance to developments in corporate and commercial law and the views expressed in the judgment.

Legislative Comments

Legislative comments should be between 2,000 and 4,000 words and critically analyse a recent amendment, legislative report, notification or new enactment, including the authorsโ€™ views.

Themes

Submissions may be made on the following broad themes:

  • Company Law
  • Taxation Law
  • Securities and Capital Markets Law
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • Contract Law
  • White-Collar Crimes
  • Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Law
  • Competition Law
  • Law of Banking and Finance
  • Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law

The call also identifies several indicative sub-themes, including cross-border mergers, tax implications, tokenisation of real-world assets and securities, RBI master circulars, acquisition financing, merger control, hybrid securities, futures and options trading, downstream investments, digital and financial regulation, greenwashing, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and sectoral data regulations, competition law settlements and commitments, sustainable finance, contractual loss-of-profits claims, blockchain and artificial intelligence in insolvency, cross-border insolvency and the new Income Tax Act 2025.

Submission Guidelines

  • The abstract must be under 500 words.
  • The abstract should outline the idea, structure, conclusions, novelty, usefulness and specific contribution of the proposed article beyond existing literature.
  • Five to six keywords must accompany the abstract.
  • The prescribed word limits for manuscripts are exclusive of the abstract and footnotes.
  • The manuscript word limit may be relaxed by up to 10% at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
  • Manuscripts must be original and must not have been previously published or submitted elsewhere.
  • A maximum of two authors may co-author a manuscript.
  • Each author is limited to one submission per volume.

Citation Guidelines

Citations must strictly follow the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA), 5th edition, 2026. Footnotes must be used as the sole method of citation, while substantive or speaking footnotes are discouraged.

Review Process

The Journal follows a four-stage review process comprising a technical review, two stages of content review and a peer review. Authors will be informed about the status of their manuscripts following each stage.

Only shortlisted abstracts will proceed to the next stage. Authors whose abstracts are accepted will subsequently receive the submission link for the full paper.

Abstracts are to be submitted through the Google Form specified in the Call for Abstracts. The full-paper submission link will be provided only to authors whose abstracts are accepted.
