The Ambedkar Fellowship 2026 is a youth-focused policy and governance fellowship associated with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Maharashtra. The programme is designed to provide practical exposure to the implementation of social justice policies.
About the Opportunity
The Ambedkar Fellowship is a two-month fellowship for individuals interested in social justice, governance and policy research. Selected fellows will work on schemes related to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and engage with public representatives.
The fellowship will involve policy research, field engagement and interaction with public representatives and beneficiaries. Fellows will study how government schemes are implemented, identify gaps in delivery and develop practical, research-backed recommendations.

The fellowship will be for two months.
Location
The fellowship will be based in Pune, Maharashtra.
Eligibility Criteria
- Undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- PhD scholars and independent researchers.
- Recent graduates and early-career professionals.
- Students and professionals from Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Social Work, Economics or related fields.
- Individuals interested in social justice, governance, government schemes, policy research and grassroots work.
- Applicants comfortable with field research, community interaction, documentation and policy analysis.
- Marathi proficiency is preferred, along with working knowledge of Hindi and/or English.
- Applicants should be comfortable with field visits, research, documentation and community interaction.
- A personal laptop and availability in Pune for the fellowship duration are mandatory.
Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Research and Drafting
Fellows will conduct policy research and study selected schemes related to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
Field Research
Fellows will participate in field engagement and interact with beneficiaries to understand the implementation of government schemes.
Case Management
Fellows will engage with public representatives and study gaps in the delivery of social justice schemes.
Research and Analysis
Fellows will develop practical, research-backed recommendations based on their findings.
