About Harvard Law School
Harvard Law School is offering the Reginald F. Lewis Fellowship for Law Teaching as a full-time residency focused on legal scholarship and preparation for a career in law teaching.
The fellowship is named after Reginald F. Lewis, HLS 1968, founding CEO of TLC Beatrice International, who made a major gift to Harvard Law School shortly before his death in 1993.
About the Opportunity
The Reginald F. Lewis Fellowship for Law Teaching is a fully funded residency at Harvard Law School for candidates interested in legal academia and scholarship.
During the fellowship, the Fellow will prepare at least one major article for publication, audit courses, attend workshops and follow a research schedule agreed upon with the Lewis Committee. The Fellow will also have access to Harvard Law School’s libraries, research facilities and faculty.
Duration
The fellowship will run from July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028.
Location
The fellowship will be conducted through full-time residency at Harvard Law School in Cambridge.
Stipend
The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $60,000.
Perks
The Fellow will have full access to Harvard Law School’s libraries, research facilities and faculty.
There is no application fee.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must hold a J.D., LL.M. or S.J.D. at the time of application.
- Candidates currently pursuing or having completed an LL.M. may therefore apply.
Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Research
The Fellow will work on a research and writing project intended for publication during the fellowship and follow a research schedule agreed upon with the Lewis Committee.
Academic Scholarship
The Fellow will prepare at least one major article for publication, audit courses and attend workshops as part of the fellowship.

Application Procedure
Applicants must submit the following:
- A curriculum vitae.
- A four-page description of the research and writing project intended for publication during the fellowship.
- A four-page statement explaining the applicant’s interest in law teaching and legal scholarship, including the fields in which they expect to work.
- All transcripts.
- Two letters of reference.
