Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) is inviting applications for an internship focused on human rights, international justice, advocacy, research and related work.

Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) works towards the promotion of human rights and international justice. Its work includes research, advocacy, capacity-building initiatives and engagement with developments in international justice.

About the Opportunity

The internship offers an opportunity to contribute to AFLA’s work on human rights and international justice. Interns will work under the supervision of a seasoned international justice lawyer and associates.

The role combines legal and policy research with advocacy, programme support, monitoring of proceedings and selected administrative and communications responsibilities.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have an advanced degree in law or related studies.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of French will be an advantage.
  • Candidates must have excellent research and writing skills.
  • Candidates should be able to work independently as well as as part of a team.
  • Candidates should be well organised.
  • A sense of humour is also listed among the requirements.

Human Rights & International Justice Research

Interns will conduct research and document issues relating to human rights and international justice.

Capacity-Building Programmes

Interns will assist in organising and supporting AFLA’s capacity-building programmes.

Advocacy

The role will involve supporting AFLA’s advocacy initiatives.

International Criminal Court

Interns will monitor proceedings before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Administration

The internship will also involve carrying out administrative tasks as required.

Podcasts & Social Media

Interns will support the publication of podcast episodes and assist with the management of AFLA’s social media channels.
