St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata is hosting the 2nd International Conference on Human Rights through its Xavier Law School. The conference brings together scholars, academicians, professionals, research scholars and postgraduate students to engage with contemporary questions surrounding human rights, decolonial thought, law and justice.
About the Opportunity
The conference is themed “Decolonising Human Rights: Towards Pluriversality” and seeks to critically examine the foundations of the international human rights regime and its relationship with colonial histories, Western jurisprudence and global inequalities.
The conference will explore alternative approaches to human rights through diverse intellectual frameworks, experiences and priorities from the Global South and other non-Western contexts. It will examine issues including collectivism, the rights of Nature, epistemic disobedience, decolonial research, international law, global capital, ecological concerns and alternative conceptions of justice.
The conference invites original manuscripts addressing the indicative subthemes provided by the organisers. Selected papers may receive publication opportunities in an edited book with an ISBN and some papers may be considered for a special issue of Xavier Law Review.

Eligibility Criteria
- Academicians, professionals, research scholars and postgraduate students may submit papers.
- Full papers are accepted from academicians, professionals, research scholars and postgraduate students.
- Postgraduate students are eligible for offline poster presentations only.
- Abstracts must not exceed 500 words.
- A brief biography of not more than 150 words and institutional affiliation must accompany the abstract.

Submission Requirements
The abstract submission must include an abstract of up to 500 words, a brief biography of up to 150 words and the author’s institutional affiliation.
The first draft should be a working paper reflecting the problem, objectives and methodology.
Full papers should contain 5,000–8,000 words and follow the prescribed formatting requirements: MS Word format, Times New Roman, 14-point bold for the title, 12-point text, 10-point footnotes, 1.5 line spacing and OSCOLA 4th Edition citations.
Postgraduate students submitting offline posters must follow the 4×3 feet poster format and include Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, along with the track name, title, authors, affiliations and institutional logos.
