About Sir Issac Newton Educational Institutions

Sir Issac Newton Educational Institutions was established in 2001 under the Thandapani Pillai and Sons Educational and Charitable Trust in memory of Thiru R. Thandaapani. The institution has developed into a 60+ acre educational community with 8,000+ students and 500+ faculty, offering education from Pre-KG to Ph.D. across diverse disciplines.

About the Opportunity

The R. Thandapani Memorial National Moot Competition 2026 is being organised by the Moot Court Society of Sir Issac Newton Law College, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. The competition is intended to provide law students with an opportunity to undertake legal research and participate in oral advocacy.

The competition will commence with 20 teams admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams will compete in two Preliminary Rounds, followed by the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final on a knockout basis.

A Researcher’s Test will also be conducted during the Preliminary Stage. It will assess legal research, analytical ability and understanding of the Moot Proposition.

Mode

The competition will be conducted entirely in offline mode at the campus of Sir Issac Newton Law College, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The competition is open to bona fide students pursuing 5-Year or 3-Year LL.B. programmes in institutions recognised by the Bar Council of India.
  • Only one team may participate from each institution.
  • Each team shall consist of three members: two Speakers and one Researcher.
  • A maximum of 20 teams will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Dates

  • Registration closes: September 6, 2026.
  • Last date for clarifications: September 10, 2026.
  • Release of clarifications: September 12, 2026.
  • Soft copy memorial submission: October 1, 2026.
  • Hard copy memorial submission, inauguration and Researcher’s Test: October 9, 2026.
  • Preliminary Rounds and Quarter-Finals: October 10, 2026.
  • Semi-Finals, Final and Valedictory: October 11, 2026.

Fee

The registration fee is ₹5,000 per team, inclusive of accommodation and food.

Prizes

  • Winner: Trophy, Certificate and ₹1,00,000.
  • Runner-Up: Trophy, Certificate and ₹50,000.
  • Best Memorial: Trophy, Certificate and ₹5,000.
  • Best Researcher: Trophy, Certificate and ₹5,000.
  • Best Speaker – Women: Trophy, Certificate and ₹5,000.
  • Best Speaker – Men: Trophy, Certificate and ₹5,000.
