About the Opportunity
Thomas George & Associates is inviting law students to participate in its 7th TGA Virtual Moot Court Competition, 2026. The competition will be conducted virtually and will be based on a fictional proposition concerning the use of Artificial Intelligence in litigation.
The moot proposition, titled “In Re: Cognizance for AI Usage in Litigation”, raises questions concerning AI-generated fictitious citations, attorney-client privilege, vicarious liability of senior advocates, and disclosure of AI usage before courts.
Eligibility Criteria
- Three students from the same law college may form a team.
- A college may send a maximum of two teams.
- Each team must consist of three members: Speaker No. 1, Speaker No. 2, and Researcher.
- Students from all years of five-year and three-year law courses are eligible to participate.
Mode
The competition will be conducted entirely in virtual mode. Participants are required to maintain a steady internet connection and keep their cameras turned on throughout the rounds.
Date
The competition will be held on December 5 and 6, 2026. An inaugural ceremony will be conducted on December 5, and attendance is mandatory for all participants. Failure to attend will result in a deduction of 10 marks from the preliminary rounds.
Theme
The moot proposition is based on the use of Artificial Intelligence in litigation. The four issues before the fictional Supreme Court of Indigo concern professional misconduct and contempt arising from non-existent AI-generated citations, attorney-client privilege and uploading client documents to AI platforms, vicarious liability of senior advocates, and disclosure of AI usage by advocates.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is Rs. 750 per team. The fee can be paid through Google Pay at +91 8209156354. Teams requiring bank account details may send an email requesting the same.
Deadline
The confirmation email and registration fee must be submitted on or before September 15, 2026.
Rules
- Each speaker will be allotted 15 minutes, subject to an extension granted by the judges.
- Judgments, citations, and precedents referred to during arguments may be screen-shared online, and compendiums are not required.
- Breach of deadlines may result in disqualification.
- In case of internet interruption from a participant’s side, only a five-minute extension may be granted at the discretion of the judges.
- Feedback will be provided after each round.
- Clarifications must be sent on or before September 25, 2026.
- Participants must follow the prescribed dress code, and failure to do so may result in disqualification at the discretion of the judge.
- All correspondence must be sent to the official competition email address.
Memorial Guidelines
Each team is required to prepare written memorials for both sides of the moot. The memorial for the Bar Council of Indigo and State Bar Councils of Indigo must have a blue cover page, while the memorial for the Supreme Court of Indigo Bar Association and other Bar Associations of the Republic of Indigo must have a red cover page.
Soft copies of the memorials must be submitted by November 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Hard copies are not required. The arguments section of each memorial must not exceed four A4 pages, excluding the index, index of authorities, facts of the case, issues framed, summary of arguments, and prayer.
The body of the memorial must use Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing. Footnotes must be in Times New Roman, font size 10, with single line spacing. Memorials will be exchanged between teams on December 4, 2026.

- Best Speaker in Preliminary Rounds: Rs. 5,000
- Best Researcher: Rs. 5,000
- Certificates of merit and trophies will be sent by post to the winners.
- Certificates of participation will be sent by post to all participants, including winners.
- Books sponsored by Gogia Law Agency, Hyderabad, will be awarded to the winners.

Application Procedure
Interested teams may apply through the following:
- Send an email agreeing to participate to tgacompetitions@gmail.com on or before September 15, 2026.
- The email must contain the full names of all team members, college name, postal addresses with PIN codes, mobile numbers of all team members, a scanned copy of the College ID Card of the team, and a screenshot of the registration fee payment.
- The confirmation email must preferably be sent from the official email ID of the college or Moot Court Society. A personal email ID may be used where the college does not have such a society.
- Teams must use the same email ID for all subsequent correspondence.
- The registration fee of Rs. 750 per team must be paid through Google Pay at +91 8209156354, or teams may request bank account details by email.
