About National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi
The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, is a National Law University committed to legal education, research, and community engagement. In partnership with the Forum for Nation Building (FNB), Nepal, the University is implementing the Empower Youth Fellow: Building Youth Leadership and Legal Capacity project under the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (Norec) Exchange Programme to promote legal empowerment, governance, access to justice, and cross-border institutional collaboration.
About the Fellowship
The Young Legal Fellowship Programme is a short-term, project-based international fellowship under the Norec Exchange Programme. Selected fellows will spend six months in Nepal with FNB Nepal, followed by two months of follow-up work at NUSRL Ranchi. The fellowship focuses on legal literacy, governance, migration, mediation, community legal services, comparative legal research, and institutional cooperation between India and Nepal.
Duration
The fellowship includes six months of international placement in Nepal followed by a two-month follow-up phase at NUSRL Ranchi. The appointment is purely contractual and co-terminus with the fellowship period.
Mode
This is a full-time international exchange fellowship. Fellows will work with Forum for Nation Building (FNB), Nepal, before returning to India for the mandatory follow-up phase at NUSRL Ranchi.

The fellowship will be hosted by Forum for Nation Building (FNB), Nepal, with a mandatory follow-up phase at NUSRL Ranchi, Jharkhand after completion of the international exchange.
Number of Positions
A total of 2 fellowship positions are available under the Young Legal Fellowship Programme commencing in September 2026.
Stipend
Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of ₹60,000–₹70,000, subject to project funding norms. The programme also provides travel, accommodation, visa assistance, insurance, mentoring, and other approved project support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizen.
- Age between 18 and 35 years.
- LL.B. graduate, LL.M. student, research scholar, or early-career legal professional.
- Demonstrated interest in access to justice, governance, migration, legal aid, or human rights.
- Strong English communication and writing skills.
- Willingness to stay in Nepal for six months and complete the follow-up phase at NUSRL.
- Valid passport for international travel, if required.
Roles & Responsibilities
Community Legal Engagement
- Support community legal clinics and legal literacy initiatives.
- Participate in outreach and institutional orientation programmes.
- Observe mediation and local governance practices.
Research & Documentation
- Conduct comparative legal and policy research.
- Prepare policy briefs, research papers, legal awareness resources, and case studies.
- Submit monthly progress reports and a comprehensive final fellowship report.
Institutional Activities
- Participate in workshops, consultations, and training programmes.
- Conduct dissemination sessions and knowledge-sharing activities after returning to India.
- Assist in integrating learning into NUSRL’s legal aid and outreach programmes.
