The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is inviting applications for its Legal Internship Programme for law students interested in gaining structured exposure to competition law, regulatory practice, and policy-oriented legal research within India’s premier competition regulator.
About Competition Commission of India
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is a statutory body established under the Competition Act, 2002. It is responsible for promoting and sustaining fair competition in markets, preventing anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominant position, and regulating combinations such as mergers and acquisitions that may adversely affect competition. Through its enforcement, advocacy, and regulatory functions, the Commission plays a critical role in ensuring competitive market structures and protecting consumer interests across sectors of the economy.
About the Internship
The Legal Internship Programme at CCI offers law students a valuable opportunity to understand the functioning of a specialised regulatory authority working at the intersection of law, economics, and public policy. Interns are placed under the supervision of officers of the Commission and are exposed to live regulatory processes, competition law analysis, and institutional research practices.
During the internship, selected candidates engage with competition law issues arising in merger control, anti-competitive agreements, cartel investigations, and abuse of dominance matters. The programme also introduces interns to policy development and advocacy initiatives undertaken by the Commission to strengthen competitive governance in India.
This internship is particularly beneficial for students interested in regulatory litigation, corporate law, antitrust practice, and public policy research, as it offers insight into both enforcement mechanisms and institutional decision-making frameworks.
Eligibility Criteria
Students in the second or third year of a three-year LL.B. programme, or the fourth or final year of a five-year integrated law programme, are eligible to apply. LL.M. students may also apply. Applicants must be Indian nationals studying at recognised institutions and should have prior exposure to competition law as part of their academic coursework or research interests. Candidates who already hold confirmed job placements are not eligible to apply for this internship.
Responsibilities
Selected interns will assist the Commission in legal research and analytical work related to competition law matters. They may support officers in reviewing regulatory frameworks, preparing research notes, and contributing to policy-oriented documentation. Interns are also expected to participate in assigned research projects and assist in the preparation of structured reports relevant to the Commission’s ongoing work.
