About Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. DGFT is responsible for formulating, implementing, and monitoring the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), which provides the framework for promoting exports and trade in India.
Apart from administering the Foreign Trade Policy, DGFT also deals with multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), state trading, export promotion, trade facilitation, and the regulation and development of export-oriented industries and commodities.
About the Opportunity
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is inviting applications for the engagement of Young Professionals in multiple disciplines, including Legal. The engagement is purely temporary and contractual.
Selected candidates will assist DGFT in its various divisions and contribute to legal and policy-related assignments connected with foreign trade, commercial regulation, and government administration.
Duration
The engagement will initially be for one year and may be extended up to a maximum of three years based on the requirements of the Directorate.
Location
The engagement will be with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.
Working Hours
The normal working hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on working days, including a half-hour lunch break. Young Professionals may also be required to work beyond office hours and on weekends or holidays, if required.
Remuneration
The selected candidates will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹70,000 per month, subject to applicable deductions such as Professional Tax and TDS. No additional allowance or facility will be provided.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be below 35 years of age as on July 1, 2026.
- Candidates applying for the Legal discipline must possess:
- LL.B. or LL.M.; and
- A Postgraduate Diploma in any legal subject.
- Applicants must have a minimum of one year of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in computer skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Research
- Assist in legal and policy-related assignments concerning foreign trade and commerce.
- Conduct legal research on matters assigned by the Directorate.
Drafting
- Prepare legal notes, reports, and other official documentation.
- Assist in drafting documents required by the concerned division.
Compliance
- Support the implementation of the Foreign Trade Policy and related legal frameworks.
- Assist in matters concerning trade regulation and government compliance.
Perks
Young Professionals will be entitled to:
- Leave at the rate of 1.5 days for each completed month of service, subject to approval.
- Maternity leave, wherever applicable, in accordance with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017.
- TA/DA equivalent to that admissible to an Assistant Section Officer of the Central Government for official tours.
