Founded in 2009, Trade, Law and Development is a journal focused on constructive and democratic debate on emerging issues in international economic law. It serves as a forum for the discussion and distribution of ideas relating to trade, development, and the global economic order. The journal states that it has been ranked the best journal in India across all fields of law for seven consecutive years by the Washington and Lee University School of Law.

About the Call for Papers

The Board of Editors of Trade, Law and Development invites original and unpublished manuscripts for a Special Issue, Vol. 18, No. 1, scheduled as the Winter 2026 issue. The theme is “Reimagining Global Trade: Industrial Policy and Strategic Autonomy in a Changing Global Order”. The call examines the changing relationship between industrial policy, economic security, strategic autonomy, and the international trade regime.

The call responds to the growing use of subsidies, domestic content requirements, export controls, investment screening, and preferential procurement policies by governments seeking to strengthen domestic industries, secure critical supply chains, and advance geopolitical and technological objectives. It also considers the implications of climate transition measures, supply-chain vulnerabilities, and competition in emerging technologies for international economic law.

• Critical minerals and resource governance.
• Green industrial policy, climate measures, and trade.

Submission Categories

Submissions are invited in the form of Articles, Notes, Comments, and Book Reviews. Contributions should focus on the theme and its impact on the international trade regime and the global trading system. The listed areas are indicative, and the journal is open to submissions on other aspects related to industrial policy and strategic autonomy.

Submission Guidelines

• Manuscripts must be original and unpublished, and may be co-authored.
• Articles generally range from 10,000 to 20,000 words. Shorter pieces of less than 10,000 words may be published as Notes or Comments.
• An abstract must precede the manuscript body, except in the case of Book Reviews.
• The journal follows the Bluebook 20th Edition citation system and British English convention.
• Submissions must be made in Microsoft Word format with minimum use of macros.
• First-time contributors should submit an updated CV containing the authors’ names, affiliations, qualifications, and contact details, together with a cover letter.
• There is no publication fee for authors.

Manuscripts must be received by September 30, 2026, for consideration for the Special Issue.
