About Supreme Court Legal Services Committee
Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) originated under Section 3A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It formally came into existence in 1996 with the framing of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee Regulations, 1996.
The Committee works towards ensuring access to justice and providing quality legal aid to vulnerable sections of society. It operates with the objective of reaching legal services to marginalized sections and advancing the mandate of equal justice and free legal aid under Article 39A of the Constitution of India.
About the Opportunity
SCLSC invites online applications from law students pursuing three-year and five-year law degree courses for its Internship Programme.
The internship provides students with exposure to the day-to-day functioning of the Committee, legal issues faced by people at large and the functioning of the free legal aid system. Interns can also gain practical exposure to how different stakeholders work together to extend legal aid and welfare benefits to marginalized sections of society.
SCLSC also conducts half-day running internship programmes for students.
Number of Positions
SCLSC will engage not more than 10 interns at a time.
Duration
The internship programme is generally organised on a monthly basis throughout the calendar year. The period may extend further on a need basis and is flexible.
The minimum period for the regular internship programme is 15 days.
For the half-day internship programme, the minimum duration is 30 days.
Working Hours
The regular internship programme will generally run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Under the half-day running internship programme, students can attend between 1:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
Eligibility Criteria
- Law students pursuing a three-year law degree course from any recognised College, Law School or University are eligible.
- Law students pursuing a five-year law degree course from any recognised College, Law School or University are eligible.

Field Areas for Internship
Supreme Court Legal Services
Interns will be exposed to the Supreme Court Legal Services Front Office and Internal Office. They will be made aware of the legal aid process and exposed to the grievances of applicants approaching the Front Office.
Mediation
Interns will have an opportunity to visit the Supreme Court Mediation Centre and gain exposure to the mediation process taking place under the guidance of trained mediators.
Legal Aid
The internship provides students with experience of how the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee provides legal aid to marginalized sections of society and how the organisation functions.
Perks
An Internship Certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the internship.
Students will gain practical exposure to the functioning of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee and the legal aid system, including the way legal services are provided to marginalized sections of society.
Academic Credit
The application form requires students to indicate whether they will be receiving academic credit for the internship.
Students seeking academic credit are required to include a description of their programme requirements along with the application.

Application Procedure
Interested and eligible students are required to forward their applications to sclsc.intern@gmail.com along with their bio-data through their Law College, Institution or University recommending the internship and specifying the period of internship.
Applications received directly shall not be entertained.
Students are required to produce a recommendation or no-objection letter from their Director, Head of Department, equivalent authority or authorised person after receiving intimation from the SCLSC office.
The application must be duly signed and sealed by the Head of the Department, HOD, Director or an equivalent or authorised authority.

- Areas of specialisation, if applicable
- Extracurricular, community or volunteer activities and organisations
- Details regarding academic credit, if applicable
- Description of programme requirements, if seeking academic credit

The application form asks candidates to indicate the months in which they are interested in applying: January–May, June–August or September–December.
