The SPIL Mumbai Blog is inviting blog submissions on topics of international relevance from students, academicians and practitioners.

Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai is a student organisation based in Government Law College, Mumbai. The SPIL Blog strives to provide a platform for insightful discourse on international law and related fields with well-researched content that aligns with the organisation’s mission to promote the understanding and advancement of international law.

About the Call

Through this call for papers, the SPIL Mumbai Blog is inviting original and unpublished blog submissions from authors who wish to share their insights with a wider audience and become part of its vibrant community.

Content Scope

• Original research: articles on topics related to international law, human rights, international relations, comparative law and other pertinent areas, offering new insights, critical analysis and commentary on recent world developments
• Reviews: critical reviews of books, articles, artistic pieces, research papers and other relevant publications in international law
• Commentary: comments on new treaties, conventions and policy developments, and case comments on the judgments of the ICJ, ICC, PCA or international tribunals
• Interviews with scholars, delegates, foreign officials and others

Eligibility

Submissions are open to all graduate students, professors, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars. Submissions from individuals other than the given criteria will be considered at the discretion of the organisation.

Theme

Submissions may be on any topic of international relevance.

Awards and Merit

Authors whose work is selected shall have their blogs published on the official website of SPIL Mumbai, and shall receive an E-Certificate of Publication.

Submission Guidelines

• Co-authored submissions by two individuals shall be accepted; co-authored and single submissions shall be treated as separate entries, and submissions falling into both categories shall be disqualified
• Submissions must be the original and unpublished work of the author(s); the plagiarism limit is 15 to 20 per cent, excluding footnotes, and submissions beyond the limit shall be disqualified
• No part of the submission must contain any form of identification of the author(s), such as the author’s name or university or college name; inclusion of any identification may result in disqualification
• Submissions must be written in UK English
• The word limit is 1,000 to 1,500 words, exclusive of introduction, footnotes and bibliography; lengthier submissions may be published in a series upon consideration by SPIL Mumbai
• The submission must include an introduction of up to 150 words, exclusive of the overall word limit, clearly indicating the theme of the submission
• Citations and footnotes must follow the Harvard Bluebook (20th edition) referencing style, and all sources shall be hyperlinked
• Extensive footnotes or quotations should be avoided; referencing or paraphrasing ideas from standard works is acceptable with proper acknowledgement
• The submission must be attached in .doc or .docx format only, with the document renamed as the submission title
• The submission must be accompanied by a separate document containing the full name of the author(s), chosen theme and sub-topic, title of the blog, name and address of the institution, programme enrolled in and current year of study, e-mail address and contact number, and a brief bio of the author(s) in 5 to 6 lines along with social media handles
• Submissions shall be reviewed by the editorial team; the review process may take up to 2 to 3 weeks, and authors shall be notified of the decision via e-mail
• The submission must not be submitted for any other competition or for any other purposes

Formatting Guidelines

• Main body: Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5
• Footnotes: Times New Roman, font size 10, line spacing 1.0
• Margins: 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides

Editorial Policy and Ethical Considerations

The editorial team may suggest revisions, which authors are expected to comply with promptly, and acceptance of submissions is at the discretion of the editorial team. By submitting an article, authors grant SPIL Mumbai the right to publish the content on its blog and associated platforms; authors retain the copyright but cannot republish the content elsewhere without appropriate acknowledgement to SPIL Mumbai.

All information and data presented must be accurate and correctly cited, and articles should be free from bias, discrimination and offensive language. Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Any proven copyright infringement or plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification, and the organisation retains the right to recall the publication e-certificate if such issues are discovered later.
