LexFinis Foundation is a not-for-profit legal finishing school registered with NITI Aayog (Darpan ID: DL/2026/0994787), functioning under the Chief Patronship of Justice Kurian Joseph, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India. It is a national legal education and professional development platform that prepares law students and young professionals for intelligent practice.
About the Competition
LexFinis Foundation has announced the launch of ‘Right to Writ – In Public Interest 2026’, a national writ drafting and advocacy competition for law students. The initiative is being conducted in association with the Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC) under the Skill India Mission of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
Right to Writ is not a moot and not a simulation. Each participant picks a live issue of public importance, is trained on writ drafting by practising advocates including Advocates on Record of the Supreme Court of India, and then drafts an actual petition on that issue with responsible use of AI tools from Lejit.ai.
Winning petitions will get a chance to appear as Party in Person before the concerned High Court or the Supreme Court of India through LexFinis Foundation.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to law students of any year of any LL.B. programme from any recognised institution in India. There is no cap on entries per college.
Prize Pool
The total prize pool for the competition is ₹10,00,000, distributed as follows:
- Winner: ₹1,50,000
- Runners up: ₹75,000 each (four)
- Second runners up: ₹25,000 each (five)
- State winners: ₹10,000 each
- Best College: ₹1,00,000
Certification
Every entrant receives a Certificate of Participation in association with MEPSC, under the Skill India Mission.

- 15 September 2026 — Registrations open
- 15 November 2026 — Representation due (3 pages)
- 10 December 2026 — Shortlist announced
- 26 December 2026 — Writ petition due (16 pages)
- 30 January 2027 — Winners present in Court
Registration Fee
The registration fee is ₹2,200/-. There is no cap on the number of entries per college.
