The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has invited applications for the post of Assistant Legal Adviser in the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. A total of 12 vacancies are available. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online by 3 July 2026.

About the Directorate of Enforcement

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is a law enforcement and economic intelligence agency functioning under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It is responsible for enforcing major economic laws, including the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA).

About the Position

The recruitment is for the post of Assistant Legal Adviser (Vacancy No. 26060645213). The post is permanent and falls under the General Central Service, Group ‘A’, Gazetted, Non-Ministerial category.

Successful candidates will be posted at the Directorate of Enforcement headquarters in New Delhi with All India Service Liability. The probation period is one year.

One vacancy is reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Pay Scale

  • Pay Level: Level-11 of the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess either of the following qualifications:

Option 1

  • Degree in Law from a recognised university or institute; and
  • Three years’ experience as an advocate dealing with criminal laws or fiscal laws.

Option 2

  • Master’s Degree in Law from a recognised university or institute; and
  • One year’s experience as an advocate dealing with criminal laws or fiscal laws.

Age Limit

  • UR/EWS: 40 years
  • OBC: 43 years
  • SC/ST: 45 years

Age relaxation of up to 10 years is available for eligible PwBD candidates.

Roles and Responsibilities

Selected candidates will be responsible for:

  • Advising various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India on legal matters.
  • Handling Government litigation.
  • Appearing before courts on behalf of the Central Government whenever required.
  • Performing administrative and other duties assigned by the department.
