National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) invites research proposals for its Research Endeavour Grant (N-REG) 2026-27. The programme will support two one-year projects with grants of Rs. 5 lakh each. Eligible academics and researchers may apply through the Dean RP&SD Portal by 5:00 p.m. on 31 October 2026.

About NLU Delhi

National Law University Delhi is a law university focused on legal education, academic scholarship, interdisciplinary research and legal policy development. The N-REG programme is intended to support research that deepens understanding of law, legal institutions, legal cultures and legal policy.

About the Research Endeavour Grant

The NLU Delhi Research Endeavour Grant invites proposals for the 2026-27 cycle. Proposals may use doctrinal, empirical, socio-legal or social science methods. Applicants may work in any field or theme, provided the project meaningfully engages with law, legal institutions, legal cultures or legal policy. The programme encourages innovative legal and interdisciplinary scholarship that contributes to a deeper understanding of these subjects.

Grant Value and Duration

Two annual research grants of Rs. 5 lakh each will be awarded. Each grant is for one year. The project proposed must be a standalone study and cannot form part of a larger project.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be currently working in an academic or research role at an Indian higher educational institution.
  • Hold a Master’s degree.
  • Have at least three years of demonstrable experience in an academic or research role.
  • Submit a standalone research proposal that is not part of a larger project.
  • Be able to receive the grant through an institutional bank account belonging to the institution where the applicant is currently employed.

Proposal and Supporting Documents

Applications must be complete and submitted through the online portal. The application calls for the following materials:

  • Research proposal: No more than 2,500 words, covering the research objectives, significance, methodology and research questions with brief explanations.
  • Progress milestones document: No more than 1,500 words, setting out quarterly targets for completing the proposed research within one year.
  • Budget outline: Use no more than two levels of subheadings under each expenditure head. Human-resource costs cannot exceed 70% of total expenses. Foreign travel and related expenses are not eligible costs.
  • List of publications: Include the applicant’s publications and research outcomes.
  • Comprehensive CV.
  • Educational degrees: Scanned Master’s and any higher-degree certificates. Certificates below Master’s level are not required.
  • Institutional letter: A signed letter on the employer’s institutional letterhead confirming that the proposal has been considered and authorised; the grant can be received and disbursed through the institution’s bank account; the institution will submit a utilisation certificate on completion or at the end of one year, whichever is earlier; and any unspent amount will be refunded.

Selection and Monitoring

A Research Grants Selection Committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor will assess applications and may shortlist applicants for an interaction and detailed discussion. Based on the proposal and interaction, the committee will recommend two applicants for the grants. NLU Delhi may seek further information or documents during selection and reserves the right not to select an applicant if none is found eligible or suitable.

The University will designate a person to monitor each project. Principal Investigators must submit quarterly progress reports in the prescribed format. Funding will be released in three instalments, subject to satisfactory progress. Unsatisfactory progress or inordinate delay may make the institution liable to refund the full amount released.
