National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, is inviting applications for its Research Fellowships programme on a contract basis. The programme supports research in law, social sciences and public policy and is open to interdisciplinary as well as disciplinary research.
About the Opportunity
The NLSIU Research Fellowships programme provides scholars with dedicated time at NLSIU to pursue research and engage with the University’s intellectual community. The programme supports research that advances theoretical perspectives, contributes to knowledge systems, generates empirical evidence, identifies pathways for institutional and system reform, and connects scholarship, policy and practice.
The current call includes three fellowship categories: Graduate Research Fellowship, NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship and University Research Fellowship.
Number of Positions
NLSIU is inviting applications for 20 positions across the three fellowship categories:
- 10 Graduate Research Fellowship positions.
- 5 NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship positions.
- 5 University Research Fellowship positions.
Duration
The duration of each fellowship varies by fellowship category.
Location
Fellows are expected to be on campus during their fellowship period.
Remuneration
The starting monthly remuneration for each fellowship category is:
- Graduate Research Fellowship: Rs 50,000 per month.
- NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship: Rs 1,20,000 per month.
- University Research Fellowship: Rs 2,00,000 per month.
The final fellowship remuneration will be determined based on the candidate’s educational background, qualifications, relevant experience and overall suitability.

The fellowships are for intake starting January 2027. Applications must be submitted by 30 October 2026, 5:00 pm IST.
