National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is inviting applications for a contractual Research Associate position based at its Bengaluru campus. The position is for the Citizenship and Immigration Law Clinic, which works on legal assistance, research and policy issues relating to citizenship and immigration law in India.

The Clinic will provide legal assistance in matters involving citizenship determination, asylum and refugee status, deportation and detention, while also undertaking research on citizenship and immigration law and identifying areas for policy reform.

About the Opportunity

NLSIU is offering one full-time Research Associate position for the Citizenship and Immigration Law Clinic. The Research Associate will contribute to the Clinic’s research projects, including legal research, empirical studies and preparation of research outputs.

The role will also involve data collection, preparation of legal briefs, coordination with partner lawyers and research-based writing on citizenship and immigration law in India. The position may require travel to research sites for data collection.

There is one vacancy for the position of Research Associate.

Duration

The appointment will be for a period of one year and may be extended based on performance.

Mode

The position is full-time and contractual.

Location

The Research Associate will be based at the NLSIU Campus in Bengaluru. The role may also involve travel to tentative research sites for data collection.

Practice Areas

The role will focus on Citizenship and Immigration Law, including related legal and policy research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Candidates must have 1–3 years of research or practice experience in Citizenship and Immigration Law.
  • Candidates must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • A Master’s degree in Law or an allied discipline is desirable.

Roles & Responsibilities

Research

The Research Associate will contribute to the Citizenship Clinic’s research agenda and undertake groundwork for research projects concerning citizenship and immigration law in India.

Data Collection

The Research Associate will engage in data collection for the Clinic’s research activities, including travel to research sites where required.

Legal Research & Drafting

The Research Associate will assist in researching and drafting research outputs and prepare legal briefs concerning important developments in citizenship and immigration law.

Research Publications

The Research Associate will regularly contribute research-based writing on citizenship and immigration law in India.

Case Data & Coordination

The Research Associate will maintain records of research outputs and coordinate with partner lawyers regarding case data.

Salary

The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience and University norms.
