The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) is a national legal and policy advocacy nonprofit founded in 1969 that protects and advances the health rights of low-income and underserved individuals and families.
The organisation works to enhance equitable access to quality health care and protect the legal rights of those it serves through advocacy, education and litigation.
About the Opportunity
The National Health Law Program is hiring up to four paid legal interns for the Summer of 2027. Summer interns will be split across the organisation’s federal advocacy, California advocacy, and litigation and enforcement teams.
The summer 2027 legal internship is fully remote and involves a 37.5 hour per week commitment for 10 weeks. Interns will receive a stipend of $15,000 for the 10 weeks of work.

Eligibility Criteria
NHeLP seeks law students who meet the following criteria:
- Law students who will be between their second and third years of law school during Summer 2027 (rising 3Ls)
- Students in dual degree programs (e.g., J.D. and M.P.H.) will also be considered, provided they have completed at least two years of law school
- Priority is given to students with a demonstrated commitment to public interest work, public health, poverty law (e.g., Medicaid, SNAP) and/or civil rights
- An interest in working toward the expansion and protection of health care access for low-income and underserved populations (e.g., the Affordable Care Act (ACA)) is expected
