The School of Excellence in Law, The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU), is organising the National Crime Scene Investigation (CSI’26) Competition on August 28–29, 2026, at its Chennai campus.
About The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU)
The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu under Act No. 43 of 1997 to promote legal education and research. Recognised by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission, it functions as the nodal institution for legal education in Tamil Nadu.
The competition is being organised by the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration and the Department of Crime and Forensic Law, School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), TNDALU. The event is designed to provide participants with practical exposure to criminal investigation through a simulated crime scene.
About the Opportunity
CSI’26 is a simulation-based national competition where participants examine a simulated crime scene, identify and analyse evidence, reconstruct the sequence of events, and apply principles of Criminal Law, the Law of Evidence, and Forensic Science to solve a case. The competition focuses on developing analytical reasoning, teamwork, legal application, and investigative skills.
A hands-on Crime Scene Investigation Workshop will be conducted before the competition by experienced forensic experts. Competition participants will automatically receive access to the workshop, while individuals interested only in the workshop may register separately.
Duration
The competition will be held over two days on 28 and 29 August 2026.
Location
The event will be conducted at the School of Excellence in Law, The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.
Remuneration
The competition offers the following prizes:
- Winner: ₹12,000, Trophy, and Certificate of Merit.
- Runner-Up: ₹7,000, Trophy, and Certificate of Merit.
- Second Runner-Up: ₹5,000, Trophy, and Certificate of Merit.
- Best Report: ₹4,000, Trophy, and Certificate of Merit.
- Best Investigator: ₹4,000, Trophy, and Certificate of Merit.
- All participants will receive Certificates of Participation.

The last date for registration is 2 August 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Each team must consist of two members from the same institution.
- Cross-institutional teams are not permitted.
- The competition is open to full-time students and full-time research scholars from Law, Criminology, Social Work, Human Rights, and Police Administration who are below 30 years of age.
- Forensic Science students are not eligible to participate in the competition.
- Multiple teams from the same institution are permitted.
- A maximum of 70 teams will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis, with 20 seats reserved for the home institution.

Participants are required to complete the registration form on or before 2 August 2026. Upon verification, teams will receive a Team Code and further instructions regarding the competition.
Registration Fee:
- Competition: ₹3,000 per team (inclusive of 18% GST), excluding accommodation.
- Workshop Only: ₹1,500 per participant (inclusive of 18% GST).
