About Panjab University
Panjab Universityβs Department of Laws was originally established at Lahore in 1889, re-established at Shimla in 1948, shifted to Jalandhar in 1950 and finally relocated to the University Campus at Chandigarh in 1959.
The Department provides practical training and academic opportunities in areas including legal research, debate, moot court and client counselling.
About MAGLAW Law Journal
MAGLAW is a biannual, peer-reviewed and refereed publication of the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, first published in 2017. The journal publishes original research papers, reviews and case comments across a wide range of legal subjects.
The journal aims to provide a platform for students to present perspectives on contemporary legal developments and encourage critical thinking, academic discussion and deeper understanding of law.
About the Call for Papers β Volume 5 Issue 2
The Editorial Board has curated Volume 5 Issue 2 around themes concerning personality rights and digital identity, women-centric legislation and institutional reform, and judicial evolution in technology, access and procedure.
Authors may select one main theme and one corresponding sub-theme.
Themes & Sub-themes
Women-centric legislation β Shield or weapon? Re-evaluating legislation, institutional failures, and an equitable path to reform.
- The justice paradox: strategic misuse vs. failure of benefits to marginalised victims due to systemic barriers.
- Judicial responses and procedural safeguards to prevent misuse.
- Economic rights and alimony dilemma: maintenance or extortion.
Judicial reforms in the last decade: evaluating structural, technological and procedural evolution.
- AI and Technology in the legal sphere: Regulation, Governance and Integrity.
- Access to Justice, Procedural and Institutional Barriers.
- Specialised Adjudication β Tribunalisation & Jurisdictional Conflicts.
Personality rights in modern times: Ownership of identity, commercial value, and free expression.
- Commercializing Identity: Names, voices, monikers and brand value.
- Postmortem rights: AI, deepfakes and digital replicas.
- The gap in law: Need for codification and clear guidelines.
The listed themes and sub-themes are as provided in the call for papers.
Submission Categories
The journal is accepting the following categories of submissions:
- Research Papers β 3,000 to 6,000 words
- Case Notes β 2,500 to 3,000 words
- Legal Opinion β 1,500 to 2,000 words
The word limit is exclusive of footnotes but includes the abstract.
Conditions of Publication
- Authors must maintain strict anonymity and must not mention their names, institutional affiliations, personal credentials or other identifying information in the manuscript.
- AI-assisted writing tools are strictly prohibited. Authors must submit an AI report generated through Turnitin or Urkund, and the stated AI similarity index must not exceed 0%.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that submissions do not contain plagiarism or copyright violations.
- MAGLAW follows an open-access policy and does not charge authors publication or processing fees.
- Co-authorship is permitted for a maximum of two authors per paper. Student authors cannot submit papers co-authored with professionals.
- Submissions must be original and must not be simultaneously under consideration by another journal or publication.
- Authors must ensure accuracy in the representation of facts and sources.
The required undertakings in the prescribed annexures must also be submitted with the abstract submission.
Submission Guidelines
Stage One β Abstract Submission
Authors must first submit an abstract of not more than 200 words along with five keywords through the Open Journal System (OJS).
The abstract submission must be accompanied by a cover letter and a self-declaration/undertaking in the prescribed formats. Only selected abstracts will proceed to the manuscript stage.
Stage Two β Manuscript Submission
Authors whose abstracts are selected will receive one month from the date of intimation to submit the complete manuscript through the OJS.
Except for the cover letter, submitted documents must not contain personal information such as the authorβs name or institutional affiliation. Manuscripts must also be accompanied by the required Originality and AI Reports generated through Turnitin.
Where revisions are required, authors will be given four days to incorporate the suggested changes and resubmit the anonymous manuscript.
Formatting
Submissions must follow the following formatting requirements:
- Font: Times New Roman
- Language: British English
- Page margins: 1 inch on all sides
- Font size: 12 for the main body and headings; 10 for footnotes
- Line spacing: 1.5 for the main body and headings; 1.0 for footnotes
- Citation style: ILI Footnoting
- Footnotes must be automated
- Headings and sub-headings must be left aligned
- Content must be justified
- Each paragraph must have a 1-inch indent
- Hyperlinks, if used, must be in black
- A single-line gap must be maintained between paragraphs
- Tables, figures, charts and graphs must be numbered consecutively.
