Assam University, Silchar invites law students to its first National Moot Court Competition. Register by October 22, 2026.
About Assam University
Assam University is a Central University established under an Act of Parliament in 1989. Its Silchar campus is located at Dargakona in Assam. The Department of Law was established in 2004 and offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. programmes. Its student-led Moot Court Society organises moot courts, mock trials and clinical programmes to develop legal research, drafting and oral advocacy skills.
About the Competition
The Moot Court Society, Department of Law, Assam University, Silchar is organising the inaugural national competition on November 27–28, 2026. It combines a memorial qualifying stage with oral rounds at the university campus. The competition focuses on constitutional advocacy and environmental jurisprudence, with teams preparing arguments for both sides of the moot proposition.
Mode and Venue
Memorials are submitted online through the participant portal. The sixteen qualified teams will attend the oral rounds in person at the Department of Law, Assam University, Dargakona, Silchar, Assam – 788011.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students pursuing a three-year LL.B. or five-year integrated LL.B. at a recognised institution in India are eligible.
- Participants must remain bona fide students during the competition and carry proof of enrolment.
- Final-year students awaiting results may participate if their institution certifies their student status as on November 27, 2026.
- Practising advocates and enrolled members of a State Bar Council are ineligible.
Team Composition
Only one team per institution is permitted. Under the rulebook, a team may have up to three members: two speakers and one researcher. Teams must obtain an institutional nomination or endorsement letter. A participant cannot belong to more than one team.
Competition Structure
- The memorial round admits a maximum of 32 institutional teams, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis.
- An independent panel assesses the memorials, and the top 16 teams advance to the oral rounds.
- The oral stages comprise octa-finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand final. The top eight teams from the octa-final stage qualify for the quarter-finals.
Moot Proposition
The proposition concerns wildlife conservation, suspected poaching and restrictions affecting communities around a protected landscape in the fictional State of Avalom, Indica. Teams should use the official proposition and the organising committee’s clarifications as the factual basis for their submissions.
Registration Fee and Accommodation
The memorial qualification stage is free. Teams qualifying for the oral rounds must pay ₹3,000 per team at final registration. The brochure states that food and accommodation are included. Registration fees are generally non-refundable, subject to the rulebook’s provisions for cancellation or postponement by the organisers.
Memorial Submission Guidelines
Each team must submit separate petitioner and respondent memorials in PDF format through the participant portal by 11:59 PM IST on October 31, 2026. Use A4 pages, one-inch margins and Times New Roman: 12-point body text with 1.5 line spacing, and 10-point footnotes with single spacing. Follow Bluebook, 21st edition, for citations. Memorials must identify teams only by their allotted codes and must not disclose institutional or participant identities. Qualified teams must bring five hard copies for each side to the venue.
Awards and Benefits
- Winner: ₹50,000, trophy, certificates and welcome kit.
- Runner-up: ₹30,000, trophy, certificates and welcome kit.
- Best Memorial, Best Speaker and Best Researcher: ₹15,000 each.
- The winning team receives three one-year SCC Online Web Edition subscriptions, each valued at ₹33,500.
- All participants receive one month of SCC Online Web Edition access, valued at ₹3,100 each, along with a participation certificate and an Assamese Gamosa.

- Release of clarifications: October 17, 2026.
- Memorial submission: October 31, 2026, by 11:59 PM IST.
- Announcement of qualified teams: November 3, 2026.
- Confirmation of travel details: November 20, 2026.
- Oral rounds: November 27–28, 2026.
Final registration opens on November 3. The live portal lists November 10 as its closing date, while the brochure and rulebook list November 8. Qualified teams should confirm the applicable deadline with the organising committee before completing payment.

Application Procedure
Create a team account through the official registration portal and complete provisional registration by October 22, 2026. Provide institutional and coordinator details, an institution nomination letter and scanned identity cards for all participants. Submit both memorials through the participant portal by the prescribed deadline. Teams selected among the top sixteen must complete final registration, pay the applicable fee and confirm their travel details. Read the brochure, rulebook and proposition before registering.
