Central Railway invites advocates to apply for 33 empanelment places in District and Subordinate Courts by 23 October 2026.
About Central Railway
The Law Cell at Central Railway’s General Manager’s Office, CSMT Mumbai, has issued Notification No. 01/2026 for the empanelment of Railway Advocates. The notification covers District and Subordinate Courts within its jurisdiction in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
About the Opportunity
Applications are invited from practising advocates for representation before the specified courts. The proposed panel comprises 33 advocates across 18 locations. Court-wise requirements are tentative and may increase or decrease at the Railway’s administrative discretion according to the volume, nature and importance of cases.

Eligibility Criteria
- An LL.B. degree from a recognised university. Higher qualifications in law or related disciplines may receive preference.
- At least three years of practice as an advocate, supported by an experience certificate endorsed by the Chairman of the relevant Bar Association.
- For superannuated Railway officials enrolled as advocates, time spent handling Railway legal cases may count towards the experience requirement. The relevant Railway legal authority must certify this period.
- Experience representing Railways, Government, public sector undertakings or similar institutions carries additional weight.
- The committee will consider professional achievements, favourable judgments, integrity and credentials.
Infrastructure and Support Facilities
Weightage will be given to advocates with suitable office premises, junior advocates, clerical staff, a computer, printer and internet connection. The assessment may include verification of the office, legal library, sitting arrangements and other infrastructure.
Selection Process
Central Railway will shortlist eligible applications up to twice the number required for empanelment. Shortlisted advocates will receive interview details at the email address used for their application. A committee will conduct personal interviews and an independent enquiry, which may include physical verification. The final court-wise panel will be submitted to the General Manager for approval.
Fees and Terms of Engagement
Engagement terms and fees for conducting cases will follow the guidelines and fee structure prescribed by the competent authority and adopted by the Ministry of Railways from time to time.
Deadline
Applications must reach Central Railway on or before 23 October 2026. Late applications, incomplete applications and those not meeting the required conditions will be rejected.

Application Procedure
Complete the application proforma in Annexure I, including the court applied for, professional details, recent colour passport-size photograph and signature. Email it with the required supporting documents to lawsectiongm@cr.railnet.gov.in by 23 October 2026. Offline applications will not be accepted.
Enclose self-attested copies of educational qualifications, a valid and current Bar Council enrolment certificate, and the appropriately endorsed experience certificate. Where relevant, include reported or referred judgments from matters handled individually during the last three years. The notification and application proforma are available below.
