NLSIU and the Government of Meghalaya invite applications for the P. A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research 2026.

About NLSIU

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is a law university based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and is widely recognised as the first National Law University in India. The university conducts teaching and research across legal and policy disciplines and administers the P. A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research in collaboration with the Department of Law, Government of Meghalaya.

About the Fellowship

The P. A. Sangma Fellowship for Legal and Policy Research is offered by the Government of Meghalaya exclusively for graduates of NLSIU and domicile citizens of Meghalaya with law degrees from any university. The Fellowship aims to expose Fellows to the complex social and economic challenges of Meghalaya, a Sixth Schedule State, and to facilitate interventions through an analysis of legal and policy frameworks in collaboration with senior policymakers of the Government. The Fellowship is named after Shri P. A. Sangma, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. NLSIU and the Department of Law, Government of Meghalaya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Fellowship on April 4, 2022.

About the Opportunity

The sixth cohort of the Fellowship will comprise Research Fellows for the 2026 cohort. The positions are full-time and based out of Meghalaya. Fellows will be jointly mentored by Nodal Officers of the Government of Meghalaya and NLSIU, and will work on legal and policy research concerning the state.

Number of Positions

Four Research Fellow positions are available.

Duration

The Fellowship is for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Mode and Location

The Fellowship is a full-time opportunity based in Meghalaya.

Stipend and Allowance

  • A monthly stipend of ₹60,000 will be provided.
  • A monthly house rent allowance of ₹10,000 will be provided.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from NLSIU, Bengaluru.
  • Domicile citizens of Meghalaya with a law degree from any university.

Selection Process

Eligible and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. Upon selection, the Government of Meghalaya will provide the terms of reference for the Fellowship.
