The Ministry of External Affairs has invited applications for its Internship Programme in International Law at MEA headquarters, New Delhi.
About the Organisation
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the Government of India ministry responsible for the conduct of the country’s foreign relations. The Ministry launched the MEA Internship Programme in International Law from the year 2023-24.
The programme is aimed at bringing more focus on MEA, providing value to the interns, ensuring better gender inclusivity, and increasing diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile and socio-economic status amongst the cohort of interns engaged by the Ministry. It provides exposure to International Relations and Diplomacy and offers a platform for talented youth to nurture their talent in the field of International Law.
The internship programme provides an introduction to the process of formulation of foreign policy, its implementation by the Government of India, and the role of international law in foreign affairs and international relations.
Location
The internship will be based at MEA headquarters, South Block, New Delhi.
Honorarium
An honorarium of ₹10,000 per month will be paid to each intern to defray basic costs. The cost of one-time to-and-fro air travel, subject to a ceiling of the prevailing economy class air fare between the State capital and Delhi from the domicile State or the college or university of the selected candidates, will also be provided. The interns would be responsible for their board and lodging in Delhi during the period of their internship.
Intake and Duration
Every year, internships in International Law will be offered to a maximum of 6 interns. Each intern will be engaged for a minimum period of one month and a maximum period of three months.
Eligibility Criteria
- The internship is open to Indian citizens.
- Candidates must hold a graduate or postgraduate degree in law from a recognised university, or be in the final semester or year of their undergraduate or postgraduate studies where an internship is a mandatory part of the final year curriculum.
- The age of the candidate should not exceed 27 years as on 31 December of the year of internship.
Selection Procedure
The selection process will be fully online. Applications, scrutiny, selection, allocation of Division, notification, extension and certification will be managed on the dedicated internship portal of the Ministry. Each candidate needs to register on the internship portal and obtain access credentials to participate in the process.
