About Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade
Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, implements an internship scheme for students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees and research scholars enrolled in recognised universities or institutions in India or abroad.
The scheme aims to provide students with exposure to the working culture of the Government of India and the schemes being implemented by DPIIT.
About the Opportunity
The DPIIT Internship Scheme offers students an opportunity to gain exposure to the functioning of the Department and understand the schemes being implemented by it.
Students may choose an internship period of one, two or three months according to their requirements. Applications are accepted through online mode only.
Number of Positions
A maximum of 20 interns can be selected at a time.
Duration
The internship period is a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months.
Stipend
Interns will receive a stipend of ₹10,000 per month. Processing of the stipend payment will be initiated after completion of the internship period.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants pursuing Graduation, Post Graduation or Research in the following domains are eligible:
- Engineering
- Management
- Law
- Economics
- Finance
- Computers
- Library Management
Candidates from other domains may also be considered based on requirements on a case-by-case basis.
Roles & Responsibilities
Departmental Exposure
Interns will gain exposure to the working culture of the Government of India and the schemes being implemented by DPIIT.
Research and Reporting
Interns are required to submit a brief report or paper at the end of their assignment to the concerned Divisional Head covering their learning experience.
Perks
- Interns will receive a stipend of ₹10,000 per month.
- Students who satisfactorily complete the requisite internship period will be awarded an Experience Certificate.

Applicants are required to provide:
- Aadhaar Number
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Address
- Proof of Age/Date of Birth, such as Class 10th or 12th Marksheet
- Proof of Current Educational Qualification
- Bank Details for payment of stipend
- Any other documents as required

Application Procedure
Interested candidates are required to apply online through the DPIIT internship application portal.
Applicants must fill in all mandatory details in the application form and agree to the terms and conditions. They must then verify their mobile number and email ID and submit the application.
The selection process is carried out after applications received through the online portal are compiled by the Establishment Division. Sections and divisions communicate their requirements for interns, following which applications belonging to the required disciplines are made available to the concerned Division or Section.
The concerned Division or Section selects students through its procedure with the approval of the concerned Wing Head. The Establishment Division thereafter obtains the required approval and sends the internship offer to selected interns.
The online portal remains open from March 1 to April 30 and from September 1 to October 31 every year.
Applications received from March 1 to April 30 are considered for internships during June to August.
Applications received from September 1 to October 31 are considered for internships during November to January.
