International Justice Mission (IJM) is a global organisation working with communities to build safer and more just societies. Its internships and fellowships provide opportunities to contribute to work addressing violence, exploitation, and human rights abuses.
About the Opportunity
IJM offers internship and fellowship opportunities for students, graduates, and professionals across its U.S.-based, remote, and global programmes.
Interns and fellows can gain practical experience in areas including legal advocacy, policy, programme development, communications, community relations, project management, and other areas of IJM’s work.
Duration
D.C.-based and remote internships and fellowships generally run for 2–3 months. A 6–12 month legal fellowship is also available for candidates with a Juris Doctor degree.
Global internships and fellowships generally require a 12-month commitment.
Mode
Remote, part-time, full-time, hybrid, and in-person opportunities are available depending on the position.
Location
Opportunities are available in Washington, D.C., remotely, and through IJM field offices around the world.
Stipend
Interns and fellows receive a monthly stipend to help defray expenses related to participating in the programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- D.C.-based internships and fellowships require at least two years of university study.
- Applicants for global internships generally must have completed an undergraduate degree.
- Global fellowships are intended for experienced professionals and generally require an undergraduate degree, with some positions requiring a graduate degree.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicants from all countries may apply, subject to applicable local labour laws.
- Field-office internships and fellowships require a mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed.
Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Advocacy
- Contribute to legal advocacy and justice-related work.
- Support work addressing human rights abuses and violent forms of oppression.
Policy and Programme Work
- Contribute to policy and programme-related projects.
- Support project management and special projects.
Community Relations
- Assist with community relations and related activities.
- Contribute to work with communities affected by injustice.
Other Professional Functions
Opportunities are also available across areas including fundraising and communications, government relations and advocacy, programme design and implementation, and other professional functions.
