About National Center for Law and Economic Justice

National Center for Law and Economic Justice (NCLEJ) works on issues concerning economic, racial, and disability justice for low-income individuals, families, and communities.

About the Opportunity

NCLEJ is inviting applications from law students for its 2027 Economic Justice Summer Internship Program. Interns will work alongside NCLEJ attorneys, judges, and community partners on public interest law and social justice matters.

The programme will provide practical experience in impact litigation, class actions, policy analysis, advocacy, legal research, factual development, discovery, and policy work.

Duration

The programme will run from May 24 to August 4, 2027.

Working Hours

Interns will work 35 hours per week.

Mode

This is a remote internship, with the programme also offering hybrid and in-person options.

Location

The in-person option will be based in Lower Manhattan.

Compensation

Interns may receive up to $7,000 for the summer, including supplementation of outside funding.

Deadline

For 2L students, the application deadline is September 25, 2026, at 11:59 P.M. PT.

For 1L and 2L students, the application period will run from December 1, 2026, to January 7, 2027.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have completed their 1L year by Summer 2027.
  • The programme is open to law students committed to social justice.

Roles & Responsibilities

Impact Litigation

  • Support impact litigation and class action matters.
  • Assist with factual development and discovery.

Legal Research

  • Conduct legal research in support of public interest matters.

Policy Advocacy

  • Assist with policy analysis and advocacy work.
  • Work on issues concerning economic, racial, and disability justice.

Collaboration

  • Work alongside NCLEJ attorneys, judges, and community partners.
