About Just Rights Europe
Just Rights Europe is undertaking international expansion across the member states of the Council of Europe and is launching a European Observation Internship Programme as part of this initiative.
The programme is directed by Zouhaier Chihaoui, an International Human Rights Lawyer, Strategic ECHR Litigator and Grand Chamber Specialist.
About the Opportunity
The European Observation Internship Programme is designed for motivated graduates, young researchers and other talented candidates with a genuine interest in human rights.
The programme focuses exclusively on human rights issues connected with the European Convention on Human Rights and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. Particular attention will be given to developments in the participant’s own country.
Under the guidance of Zouhaier Chihaoui, participants will work on developing their ability to analyse complex human rights issues, understand and apply ECHR case law, develop strategic legal thinking and examine national human rights questions from a broader European perspective.
The programme also aims to identify individuals who may contribute to the future international development of Just Rights Europe. Outstanding participants may be considered for future professional collaboration, research opportunities, participation in the organisation’s development in their country and, where appropriate, future recruitment.
Duration
The programme has a duration of 3 to 6 months.
Mode
The programme is primarily organised as a flexible virtual collaboration. Participants can work from their own country, with a particular focus on human rights issues arising within their national legal environment.
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduates, young researchers and other talented profiles with a genuine interest in human rights may apply.
- Candidates who have completed a Master’s or postgraduate programme in Human Rights, European Law, International Law or a related field are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Candidates whose academic studies included human rights and fundamental rights as an important component may also apply.
- A highly specialised professional background is not required.
Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Research
- Analyse complex human rights issues.
- Understand and apply ECHR case law.
- Examine human rights developments in the participant’s own country.
- Analyse national human rights questions from a broader European perspective.
Strategic Legal Thinking
- Develop strategic approaches to human rights issues.
- Learn how to analyse and work strategically in the field of human rights.
- Study issues connected with the European Convention on Human Rights and ECHR case law.
