Nyayavani Foundation invites law students across India to participate in its 2nd Edition of the National Virtual Moot Court Competition.
About Nyayavani Foundation
Nyayavani Foundation is a registered Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013, and is enlisted under NITI Aayog Darpan. The Foundation works towards advancing legal aid, creating awareness, empowering marginalized sections of society, and fostering legal education among students and youth.
The Foundation has conducted debates, awareness programmes, developmental events, legal awareness drives, internships, practical training, and webinars on contemporary legal issues. It states that it has provided free internships and practical training in legal drafting and legal awareness to more than 2,000 students.
About the Opportunity
The Nyayavani National (Virtual) Moot Court Competition 2nd Edition is a national-level virtual moot court competition scheduled to be conducted from September 24 to September 27, 2026. The competition is open to bona fide law students enrolled in 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated law courses at recognized institutions in India.
The competition will provide participants with an opportunity to develop advocacy and research skills while arguing a contemporary constitutional and legal proposition before a panel of judges that includes sitting and former High Court judges, senior advocates, and academicians. The total prize pool is stated to be up to ₹50,000, along with certificates, momentos, and other prizes.
Number of Positions
The competition is open to participating teams, with each team comprising a minimum of two members and a maximum of three members.
Duration
The competition will be conducted from September 24 to September 27, 2026.
Start Date
The Researcher’s Test will be conducted on September 24, 2026, followed by the Preliminary Round on September 25, Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals on September 26, and the Final Round and Valedictory Ceremony on September 27, 2026.
Mode
The competition will be conducted online. All oral rounds will be conducted virtually and in English.
Eligibility Criteria
- Participation is open to bona fide law students enrolled in a 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated law course at any recognized institution in India.
- Each team shall comprise a minimum of two members, consisting of two speakers, and a maximum of three members, consisting of two speakers and one researcher.
- Cross-institutional teams are permitted.
- There is no cap on the number of teams that may register from a single institution.
Roles & Responsibilities
Moot Court Advocacy
Participants will argue the assigned moot proposition during the oral rounds. Each team’s side, whether Appellant/Petitioner or Respondent, will be decided through a draw of lots before each round.
Memorial Preparation
Each team must prepare memorials for both sides, namely the Petitioner/Appellant and Respondent. Memorials must contain the cover page, table of contents, list of abbreviations, index of authorities, statement of jurisdiction, statement of facts, statement of issues, summary of arguments, arguments advanced, and prayer.
Legal Research
Participants will research the laws and authorities relevant to the moot proposition. The proposition requires participants to refer to the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1978, along with amendments made to it from time to time.
Researcher’s Test
The Researcher’s Test will be conducted online and will consist of 25 multiple-choice questions relating to the moot proposition, relevant laws, and contemporary legal developments. The test will have a duration of 15 minutes, with +1 mark for every correct answer and -0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
Practice Areas
The moot proposition involves constitutional law, fundamental rights, secularism, religious freedom, food practices, animal preservation legislation, and the constitutional validity of legislation concerning cow slaughter and possession of beef.
The proposition concerns the constitutional validity of amendments to the Maratha Animal Preservation Act, 1978, and raises issues relating to the maintainability of the petition, religious sentiments, traditional food practices, Articles 48 and 51A(g), secularism, democratic governance, and reasonable restrictions.
Memorial Requirements
Memorials must be prepared in A4 size using Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and one-inch margins on all sides. Citations must uniformly follow the Bluebook 20th Edition. The total memorial must not exceed 40 pages, with a maximum of 25 pages for the “Arguments Advanced” section.
The Petitioner/Appellant cover page must be blue, while the Respondent cover page must be red. The Team Code must appear on the top-right corner.
Soft copies of the memorials in Word and PDF formats must be submitted by email with the prescribed subject line. Memorials must not contain identifying marks, photographs, annexures, or exhibits.
Schedule
The early bird registration deadline is August 1, 2026. The last date for registration is September 15, 2026. The last date for seeking clarifications is September 18, 2026, and memorial submission is due by September 20, 2026.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is ₹1,800 per team. The competition document also specifies an early bird registration fee of ₹1,500 per team and a regular registration fee of ₹1,800 per team after the early bird deadline.
Awards & Prizes
The Champion of Justice, awarded to the winner, will receive a trophy, ₹10,000 cash prize, exclusive DharmaBot AI access, a Certificate of Excellence and momento, and a special discount on Lawctopus courses.
The Defender of Rights, awarded to the runner-up, will receive a trophy, ₹5,100 cash prize, exclusive DharmaBot AI access, a Certificate of Excellence and momento, and a special discount on Lawctopus courses.
The Best Memorial Award carries a ₹2,000 cash prize and Certificate of Merit. The Best Mooter Award and Best Researcher Award each carry a ₹1,500 cash prize and Certificate of Merit.

Teams must complete registration and obtain their unique Team Code, which will serve as their identifier throughout the competition.
