JIS University is hosting the 5th National Level Moot Court Competition 2026 through its Department of Juridical Sciences. The University, located in Agarpara, Kolkata, West Bengal, offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across various disciplines, including law.
The Department of Juridical Sciences offers legal education through programmes including BBA-LL.B. (Honours), LL.B., LL.M. and Ph.D. in Law. Its academic approach combines classroom learning with practical activities such as moot courts, Lok Adalats, legal aid camps and court visits.
The competition is intended to provide law students with an opportunity to develop their legal research, advocacy and courtroom skills through simulated court proceedings.
About the Opportunity
The Department of Juridical Sciences, JIS University, is organising its 5th National Level Moot Court Competition 2026 on 30 September and 1 October 2026 at the JIS University campus in Agarpara, Kolkata.
The competition is designed to encourage students to engage with complex legal issues, undertake detailed legal research and develop effective courtroom advocacy. The organisers have described the event as a platform for budding legal professionals to showcase their advocacy skills and interact with professionals from the Bar and Bench.
The competition will follow a structured schedule beginning with registration in August 2026 and continuing through memorial submission, memorial selection, draw of lots and the various rounds of the competition.
Only 32 teams will be shortlisted for the preliminary round from among the registered participants.
Eligibility Criteria
All law colleges and institutions imparting legal education that are recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate.
Students pursuing either a 3-year or 5-year law programme may participate through their respective institutions.
Team Composition
Each participating team must consist of a maximum of three members, comprising:
- Two Speakers
- One Researcher
The researcher may be permitted to argue as a Speaker in the event of an unforeseen circumstance, subject to prior permission from the organisers. Any proposed change in team composition must also be communicated to the Moot Court Committee.
This structure gives participating students the opportunity to divide responsibilities between oral advocacy and legal research while working collectively on the moot proposition.

The competition follows the following schedule:
- Registration Begins: August 5, 2026
- Last Date of Registration: August 20, 2026
- Release of Team Codes: August 22, 2026
- Release of Clarifications: August 25, 2026
- Memorial Submission Deadline: August 28, 2026
- Declaration of Memorial Selection for Campus Round: September 1, 2026
- Draw of Lots: September 18, 2026
- Preliminary Round: September 30, 2026
- Quarter, Octa, Semi-Final and Final Rounds: October 1, 2026
The preliminary round is scheduled from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM on September 30, while the subsequent rounds and valedictory ceremony are scheduled from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM on October 1.

Registration Fee
The registration fee for the competition is βΉ1,800 per team.
The fee is stated to be non-refundable and non-transferable under the terms and conditions of the competition.
Prizes
The competition offers prize money across several categories:
- Winners: βΉ20,000
- Runners-Up: βΉ15,000
- Second Runner-Up: βΉ10,000
- Best Memorial: βΉ4,000
- Best Speaker: βΉ4,000
- Best Researcher: βΉ4,000
These awards recognise not only overall team performance but also individual achievements in memorial preparation, oral advocacy and legal research.
Accommodation, Food and Transportation
Hostel accommodation is not included in the registration fee and has to be paid for separately. The hostel and food facilities are available only to registered participants.
Food facilities include breakfast, lunch and snacks for a group of three participants, subject to the conditions specified by the organisers. Participants eliminated on the first day will not be eligible for food facilities on the subsequent day.
Transportation will be provided between the hostel and the University campus on the days of the competition.
Participants are also required to carry valid identification and copies of the documents required for the competition.
