The National Human Rights Commission has opened applications for its Online Short-Term Internship (OSTI) August 2026 batch for eligible students across India.
About the National Human Rights Commission
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, to protect and promote human rights in India. Apart from addressing human rights violations and recommending policy measures, the Commission undertakes research, awareness programmes, training, and internship initiatives to strengthen human rights education among students and young professionals.
The NHRC Internship Programme is one of the Commission’s flagship initiatives, offering participants practical exposure to human rights law, constitutional principles, public policy, and the institutional framework for protecting human rights in India.
About the Internship
The NHRC Online Short-Term Internship (OSTI) is a two-week virtual internship programme designed to introduce students to various aspects of human rights protection and governance. Throughout the programme, interns participate in expert lectures, interactive discussions, assignments, group activities, project work, and case-based learning sessions conducted by eminent academicians, senior government officials, and subject experts.
The internship aims to enhance participants’ understanding of constitutional values, human rights jurisprudence, national and international legal frameworks, and the role of statutory institutions in safeguarding fundamental rights.
Duration
The internship will be conducted for a period of two weeks.
Mode
The programme will be conducted entirely online, enabling students from across the country to participate remotely.
Stipend
Interns who successfully complete the programme in accordance with the prescribed requirements will receive a stipend of ₹2,000 along with a certificate issued by the National Human Rights Commission.
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
- Students pursuing Graduation.
- Students pursuing LL.B.
- Students pursuing Master’s programmes, including Human Rights and allied disciplines.
- Students enrolled in integrated programmes such as BA LL.B., BBA LL.B., B.Com LL.B., and similar courses.
- The maximum age of the applicant should not exceed 28 years as on 1 July 2026.
- Candidates who have previously completed an internship with NHRC are not eligible to apply.
Selection Process
Applications will be scrutinised by the Commission in accordance with the prescribed eligibility criteria. Only applications submitted through the official online portal along with all required documents will be considered. Any discrepancy in the information or documents submitted may lead to rejection of the application and may also affect eligibility for future NHRC programmes.

Candidates should submit their online applications within the timeline prescribed for the OSTI August 2026 batch through the official internship portal.

Applicants are advised to carefully read the official application guidelines before submitting their application. The guidelines contain important information regarding eligibility, required documents, application procedure, statement of purpose, document specifications, and other instructions.

Before applying, candidates should keep the following documents ready:
- Class X Certificate
- Class XII Certificate and Mark Sheet
- Graduation Certificate and Mark Sheet (if applicable)
- Latest Semester/Year Mark Sheet
- Identity Card of the current institution
- Recommendation Letter issued by the Principal, Dean, or Head of Department
- Passport-size photograph (JPEG format)
Applicants must verify their mobile number through OTP, complete the online application form, upload the required documents, submit a Statement of Purpose of approximately 250 words, and finally submit the application online. Upon successful submission, an application number will be generated for future reference.
Applications submitted through any mode other than the official online portal will not be accepted.
