Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for a workshop on international climate change law hosted at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in November 2026.

About Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Faculty of Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is one of Greece’s leading institutions for legal education and research. The workshop is being organised by the International Law Association – Hellenic Branch and the Hellenic Society of International Law & International Relations under the auspices of the Faculty of Law, AUTH.

The event aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to examine recent developments in international climate change law following a series of landmark advisory opinions delivered by international courts and tribunals.

About the Call for Papers

The organisers invite abstracts for a two-day international workshop titled “International (Climate Change) Law in the Post-Advisory Era: Taking Stock and Moving Ahead.” The workshop will explore the evolving landscape of international climate change law and assess the impact of recent advisory opinions issued by international judicial bodies.

The programme is designed around thematic discussions that encourage dialogue between early-career and established researchers. Selected participants will present their work alongside expert commentators, fostering meaningful academic engagement on pressing climate law issues.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academics, researchers, practitioners, and scholars interested in international law and climate change law.
  • Early-career researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Submissions are welcome from all career stages, institutions, and geographical regions.

Climate Change Adjudication

  • The adjudication of international law through the climate change crisis.

Climate Governance & Actors

  • Unequal narratives on climate change actors in advisory opinions.

Unaddressed Areas of International Law

  • Areas of international law left unresolved or insufficiently addressed by advisory opinions.

Future of Climate Governance

  • Advisory opinions as a renewed framework for climate governance.

Human Rights & Climate Change

  • A concluding roundtable examining the relationship between human rights and climate change.

Submission Guidelines

Abstract Submission

  • Maximum 500 words.
  • Deadline: July 1, 2026.

Notification of Acceptance

  • Applicants will be notified by July 20, 2026.

Full Paper Submission

  • Papers should be between 8,000 and 10,000 words.
  • Deadline: November 1, 2026.

Financial Support

  • No registration fee.
  • Limited travel grants, including accommodation support, will be available for early-career researchers.

Publication Opportunity

Selected papers will be considered for publication in a peer-reviewed special issue or an edited academic volume.
