The Law Commission of India is inviting applications from law students for its Voluntary Internship Scheme focused on legal research and law reform work.

About Law Commission of India

The Law Commission of India is an advisory body constituted to examine existing laws and recommend reforms for improving the legal system. It undertakes studies relating to legislative review, judicial administration, and emerging legal issues requiring statutory intervention. The Commission prepares consultation papers and research reports that assist the Government in policy formulation and modernization of laws across multiple subject areas.

The Commission regularly engages in analysis of existing statutes, identification of legal gaps, and preparation of structured recommendations aimed at improving access to justice and strengthening institutional legal frameworks. Through its reports and studies, it contributes to long-term legal policy development and reform initiatives in different branches of law.

About the Internship

The Voluntary Internship Scheme of the Law Commission of India provides undergraduate and postgraduate law students and legal researchers with exposure to research-oriented work relating to legal reform and policy development. The internship enables selected candidates to understand institutional processes involved in drafting consultation papers and reviewing legislative developments.

Interns may be required to conduct research on existing and proposed legislations, examine judicial decisions in light of contemporary legal requirements, and assist in preparation of research papers, consultation notes, and working documents. Interns may also support compilation of case laws, statutes, and comparative legal materials relevant to ongoing projects undertaken by the Commission.

Participants may be invited to attend seminars and academic discussions organised or attended by the Commission as part of its research activities. At the end of the internship period, interns are required to submit a short research paper or digitised presentation based on assigned work areas for evaluation by supervising officers.

Eligibility Criteria

Students pursuing the second or third year of a three-year LL.B. programme or the second to fifth year of a five-year integrated law degree programme from recognised institutions are eligible to apply. Applications are also open to LL.B., LL.M., and research scholars enrolled in recognised universities or institutions. A candidate may apply for internship under this Scheme only once during a financial year.
