About NALSAR
NALSAR, established in 1998 by a statute of the State of Andhra Pradesh, is a legal education institution that has promoted critical discussions on law and justice since its inception. The University focuses on the use of law as a tool for social change and attracts students from across India as well as faculty from India and abroad.
About Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust
The Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust was established in 1999 by Late Mr. Degamber Sen Sawhny in memory of his father, Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny. Justice Sawhny was a jurist who served as Chief Judge of the J&K Judicial Service and later served on the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, including as Acting Chief Justice.
About the Opportunity
The 19th NALSAR Justice B.R. Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition 2026 is organised to stimulate research and engagement with pertinent issues in Constitutional Law. The competition is being organised in collaboration with the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust.
The competition will consist of a memorandum elimination stage followed by oral rounds. The memorandum round will determine the 24 teams that proceed to the oral rounds, which will comprise preliminary and advanced rounds.
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to students enrolled bona fide on a regular basis in an undergraduate or postgraduate law course, including LL.M. programmes, or an equivalent programme conducted by an institution recognised by the Bar Council of India.
- A maximum of four teams may register from each institution.
- Teams may consist of two speakers or three members, comprising two speakers and one researcher.
- Registration must be completed through the prescribed registration form.
- Teams will be assigned a team code in the format βTC-XXβ after their registration is verified.
Mode
The competition will be conducted in offline mode.
Location
The competition will be held at NALSAR University of Law.
Duration
The competition is scheduled to take place from October 2 to October 4, 2026.
Deadline
Registrations close on August 26, 2026.
Awards
The winning team will receive Rs. 75,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will receive Rs. 50,000 and a trophy.
The Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speaker carries a prize of Rs. 50,000 and a trophy, while the Second-Best Speaker will receive Rs. 20,000 and a trophy. The Best Speaker of the Finals will receive Rs. 10,000 and a trophy.
The Best Memorial for both Appellant and Respondent will carry Rs. 10,000 and a trophy each. The Best Researcher will receive Rs. 10,000 and a trophy, while the Second-Best Researcher will receive Rs. 7,500 and a trophy.
