The National Highways Authority of India invites applications for its Paid Summer Internship Programme 2026.
About NHAI
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is a statutory body constituted under the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988, functioning under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. It is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of the national highway network across India.
NHAI plays a central role in planning, implementing, and monitoring large-scale highway infrastructure projects that strengthen national connectivity, logistics efficiency, and regional development. The authority is responsible for executing major infrastructure initiatives such as Bharatmala Pariyojana, economic corridor development, expressway projects, border connectivity roads, and port connectivity infrastructure.
It also oversees concession agreements, public–private partnership highway projects, land acquisition coordination, contract administration, tolling frameworks, and dispute resolution mechanisms relating to national highway development.
About the Internship
The Paid Summer Internship Programme 2026 offered by NHAI is designed to provide students with practical exposure to infrastructure governance and institutional functioning within a major statutory authority responsible for national highway development.
Selected interns will work under experienced professionals at NHAI headquarters, regional offices, and project implementation units located across India. The programme enables students to understand the regulatory, contractual, administrative, and technical aspects involved in infrastructure execution.
For law students, the internship provides exposure to concession agreements, land acquisition processes, infrastructure contracts, compliance frameworks, and dispute resolution mechanisms applicable to public infrastructure projects.
Nature of Work Responsibilities and Exposure
Interns selected under the programme will assist officers and project teams in research, documentation, and policy-related assignments connected with highway development initiatives undertaken by NHAI.
Participants may contribute to reviewing statutory frameworks governing infrastructure projects, including land acquisition laws, concession agreements, environmental compliance requirements, and regulatory approvals required for infrastructure implementation.
Law interns may also assist in analysing infrastructure contracts, arbitration provisions, project financing structures, and documentation related to public–private partnership arrangements. Exposure to such assignments helps students understand the legal and regulatory dimensions of infrastructure governance.
Interns may further support documentation related to project monitoring, coordination between government authorities and private concessionaires, and institutional reporting processes connected with infrastructure execution.
