Capital Energy invites applications for the position of Legal Counsel (Contracts) for project contracting and infrastructure advisory work.
About Capital Energy
Capital Energy is an infrastructure-focused organisation engaged in the development, execution, and management of projects in the renewable energy and power sector. The company works across project lifecycle stages including land acquisition, engineering procurement construction (EPC), regulatory compliance, and operational execution within energy infrastructure frameworks.
Organisations operating in the renewable energy and infrastructure sector regularly handle complex contractual arrangements involving EPC contractors, operations and maintenance service providers, landowners, and regulatory authorities. Legal professionals working in such environments play a critical role in structuring enforceable commercial agreements, managing compliance obligations, and supporting project execution across multiple phases.
Roles within infrastructure contracting teams provide exposure to project finance structures, regulatory approvals, concession frameworks, and risk allocation mechanisms essential to large-scale energy sector operations.
About the Opportunity
Capital Energy is inviting applications for the position of Legal Counsel specialising in commercial contracting and project execution. The role involves supporting business development, procurement, and project teams by structuring and negotiating legally robust agreements aligned with infrastructure execution requirements.
The selected candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders across project lifecycle stages including development, construction, and operational management. The position offers exposure to high-value contracting frameworks commonly used in renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
This opportunity is particularly suitable for professionals with prior experience in infrastructure transactions, EPC contracting, renewable energy documentation, or power sector regulatory compliance.
Nature of Work Responsibilities and Exposure
The selected Legal Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate complex project agreements including EPC contracts, operations and maintenance agreements, and power purchase agreements. These contracts form the legal foundation of infrastructure execution and require careful allocation of technical, financial, and regulatory risks.
The role also involves managing vendor contracts, land documentation frameworks, and project-related legal instruments supporting infrastructure development activities. Exposure to land agreements strengthens understanding of title documentation, regulatory permissions, and acquisition structures relevant to infrastructure projects.
The selected candidate will assist in identifying contractual risks across procurement and execution phases and recommend mitigation strategies aligned with commercial and regulatory requirements. Participation in project lifecycle documentation enables candidates to understand how legal strategy integrates with engineering, finance, and operations workflows.
The role further includes ensuring compliance with applicable statutory frameworks governing infrastructure development, energy regulation, and contractual performance obligations. Such responsibilities provide meaningful exposure to regulatory governance structures in the renewable energy sector.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
LL.B. or LL.M. degree from a recognised institution
Five to eight years of experience in corporate or project contracting roles
Prior exposure to infrastructure, renewable energy, EPC, or power sector documentation
Strong experience in contract structuring, drafting, and negotiations
Ability to coordinate with cross-functional project teams
Candidates with experience handling large-scale infrastructure documentation and regulatory compliance frameworks will be particularly well suited for this role.
Skills Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Selected candidates will gain advanced exposure to infrastructure contracting frameworks used in renewable energy and power sector projects. Participation in drafting EPC, O&M, and PPA agreements strengthens expertise in risk allocation and performance obligation structuring across complex project environments.
The role supports development of regulatory interpretation capability relating to infrastructure compliance and contractual enforcement mechanisms. Exposure to land agreements and vendor contracting further enhances familiarity with documentation processes essential to project execution.
Working closely with procurement, business development, and operations teams provides interdisciplinary insight into how legal advisory supports infrastructure delivery from planning through operational stages.
